McCain's Political Theater?

I think McCain's "suspension" of his campaign to go to DC and sit around while Congress hammers out a bailout plan is just political theater.  I am not sure that McCain's presence is required at all.  He will need to vote on a bill either way, but he can fly in, vote and be back on the trail.  Also, I think postponing the debate is another political stunt.   You know, "country first."  Our country's representatives cannot work on this program without McCain and his campaign lobbyists sitting there sounds a bit ridiculous.   I think this political theater will play well to the base, but I think it makes McCain look like he cannot multi-task well enough to campaign then go vote on a bill.

Yes...I heard the same thing about no debate unless the deal is done.

Apparently Reid spoke with McCain and told him his presence wouldn't be needed yet.

I would guess neither senator has been adequately manning their senate seat while in this race.

I am not sure if this was posted already.

Leaders lead. I thought it was very telling when Obama said, "if they need me they'll let me know"...and no one called. ; )

If ever there was a time to hear from the VP candidates, it is now...or at least soon.

Sounds like more wishful thinking by the Republicans.

I am really disappointed that the Republicans are not allowing us to get better acquainted with Palin.

"Of course, at this stage, neither can do anything like the rest of the senators who are NOT on the committee. I guess they could listen to the committee ask Paulson questions, like a lot of us did, but they could do that from their hotel suite. When the time comes to vote on "this" one, everyone will be there front and center - no fears over that."

Exactly! But where is the photo op in that? It is so much 'better' to 'look' like you are doing something - anything. Really don't we all know someone from a job who always 'looks' busy but never actually gets anything of substance done? In today's electronic age I have to believe that both candidates are in touch with their fellow senators and various financial and economic experts - well I guess somebody is emailing then for McCain LOL - but you know that whether they are there or not they are plugged in to what is going on.

I don't know what the point of suspending the campaigns is, especially since there are aspects to the campaigns that are out of their control - not to mention that the whole 'got to get back to DC' is a campaign maneuver - but I think would have liked to have been able to see the debate on Friday.
