Letterman on McCain: sad, funny and true

"After receiving a call from the McCain campaign canceling an appearance on tonight's Late Night with David Letterman, it was discovered that McCain stopped down the street to be interviewed by CBS' Katie Couric rather than rushing back to Washington to work on the proposed Wall Street bailout, as Letterman had been told.

"Hey Senator," Letterman mocked in front of live video of the interview, "can I give you a ride home?"

Letterman had earlier expressed suspicion at McCain's move to suspend his campaign. "This doesn't smell right," he said. "This isn't the way a tested hero behaves."

"I think someone's putting something in his Metamucil...He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second-string quarterback, Sarah Palin. Where is she?"

"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough?" Letterman added. "Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!""

Yeah, he couldn't make the show. So Dave is a little upset. But he did the interview with Couric. Too bad, get over it.

Wow, a Times article trying to link McCain to Freddie Mac, in a round about way. Davis owns the firm, but he's taken a leave and draws nothing from it. Oh well, nice try.

Oh, I didn't see anything in the article

"If I was to take McCain at his word that he simply couldn't do more than one thing, then I would also question whether he had what it takes to be president."

Yeah, great point. Seems like this question as to whether we take McCain seriously keeps coming up. The biggest example is picking Palin. The second biggest is when McCain confused the Sunni and Shia four times in two days on a showcase trip to Iraq. Do we take him seriously, do we make up excuses, what do we do? How are we supposed to react to this? For me, I'll do what I can to convince people that having a President where you have to ask yourself these kinds of questions would not be a good thing.

"Did McC really think his political ploy would not backfire on him?"

A lot of people are making the same point. What does McCain really think? Should we take him seriously? How are we supposed to take him?

"Too bad, get over it."

That's the problem. Is this how we are supposed to react to McCain? How many times a month would we all have to say this under President McCain? Is he going to do a competent responsible job? So far he's been pretty unsteady in his campaign and the choices he's made.

Obama won't want to stop and go to DC to vote "present".

You're conveniently forgetting that he lied about why he wouldn't be on there.

Oh Pulease! If Obama would have done the same thing, you'd be all over him like white on rice.

Lettermen in his own funny way stated to obvious which is the fact that McCain’s so-called campaign suspension is nothing more than baloney. Dazzle them with brilliance or baffle them with bull. McCain does not want to debate Obama, especially when it comed to the economy.
