Sarah Makes Katie Nervous

In all the excitement of today's news I wonder how many saw the interview with Katie Couric today. Sarah did great. Katie had the nervous blinking syndrome. It was so interesting to watch Katie's reactions to Sarah - between all the blinks - I could sense some real hatred. I enjoyed watching it.

Here it is :

Well, now, you have to be realistic. Aside from the fact that the two of you are foreign weirdo Canucks, who by rights should start every post on this board with "thank you to the American overlords who, in their mercy, allow second-class citizens such as we to even post here," in addition, Kate's also a Big Ol' Lezzy™, which is by DEFINITION anti-American.

Let's keep some perspective.

Or the US a capitalist one, for that matter.

That was not what she was asked that is at issue.

I thought it was a fair question since McCain is the one who was so recently touting that one example.

Palin makes executive decisions. Running a state is a microcosm of running the federal government.

>Palin was asked about examples of McCain's record; she knows where he stands on the issues.

Palin had not yet shown that she knows where she stands OR where John McCain stands - and IF Katie was nervous that is probably why. What Sarah knows could fill a thimble, what she doesn't know could fill a stadium. I understand from the Sunday morning news shows that Sarah Palin has been spending hours and hours per day being prepped/trained for the debate. They also said that she is a good debater - I hope so. While I am not one who wishes for another republican president I do hope that should I be saddled with one he will come with a VP who knows something about the economy and foreign relations. So far I have no evidence of it - so I hope by some miracle she shows up on Thursday a little better prepared for the debate than she was for Katie Couric.

So does the Chairman of the county board of supervisors here, and he deals with a bigger budget and is responsible for a higher population. Running Fairfax County is a whole lot tougher than running Alaska, I'll bet, yet no one is claiming Gerald Connolly is Vice Presidential material.

She's served for 2 years as the Governor of a small state (by population. Of course I know it's the biggest state acreage-wise.) She's done nothing on a national stage until now.

>then sitting in Congress debating issues.

That's not exactly what it says. We have a multi-party system and some of the parties have a more socialistic bent (in certain areas and during certain times in our history they have been more popular than they are now - and some of these parties are no longer in existance)....However if you look at Federal politics, our two main parties....the ones who have consistantly held federal Power since confederation are the Liberal and the Conservative parties. They tend to be more to the centre than both your Democratic Party (more left of our Liberals) and your Republican Party (more the the right of our Conservatives).

This is just a blog piece but contains some interesting numbers.

Canada About to Become More Capitalist Than the United States

I have had the honor of being invited to blog on Small Dead Animals, the premier Canadian web site for independent thought, conservative, free-market thinking, liberty and other sins. Thusly, since it is a Canadian web site, I decided I should make a post about Canada and thought as a kind of token "economics lesson of the day" I would describe the concept of "government spending as a percent of GDP."

The reason I like this measure is that it is "the" measure to gauge how "capitalistic" or "communistic" your economy is. If you take the government budget and divided it by GDP this shows you, more or less, what percent of the economy the government is taking. Now, a lot of people will point out that it should be government revenues, not expenditures that should be divided by GDP to see how much a country is "taxed." The problem is ultimately, whether it is debt spending today or actually taxes collected, taxes is what will inevitably pay for that spending. Thus I prefer to measure what the government spends, not what it takes in.

But imagine my surprise when I, Captain Capitalism, presumed knower-of-all-things-economic, pulled the figures for Canada and realized Canadians have the same tax level as the US. 37%.

It was shocking because Canada is supposed to be the socialist of North America and we're supposed to be the capitalists. Canada is the one with socialized medicine. Canada is the flag cowardly Americans put on their backpacks as they go to Europe. We're the evil capitalist jerks, Canada is the socialists everybody loves. And given the trend it looks like Canada is going to usurp this role.
