Hi everyone,
I live in S. CA - voting for Obama and don't understand why McCain chose Sarah as a running mate, she's clearly not qualified (not even close) - looking forward to the debates tonight and next Thursday will really be interesting!

How many pounds of peanuts are consumed in the United States each year?

Pages
Thanks Nenesr - I work in Santa Monica, great area but expensive for raising a family - your better off in Minnesota if you don't mind the brutal winters :). I'm a bit quirky i.e. Peanut Stat's, gotta spice it up.
I will say though I think to they should take "where you live into consideration" in LA even if you make 250K a year, unless you have 20% to put down, you can't qualify for a home. Most homes in Santa Monica are 1.2 million so you do the math, that's a lot of dough.
<<....in the end, America will vote for who is best.>>
Oh geez, I sure hope so! It hasn't always seemed to have gone that way in
I'm always careful about that, that's why I include "generally speaking" you can't lump everyone in a certain group. I know a few Republicans voting for Obama because they kept an open mind. Look, I thought Reagan was an incredible President and he was Republican. That's why its so important to take away DEMOCRAT and REPUBLICAN hat when you really think of this country.
I think you'll be a welcome addition to the board.
How many pounds of peanuts are consumed in the United States each year?
2.4 billion pounds! About 50% is consumed as peanut butter.

Why I’m voting for Barack Obama and feel he's the most qualified –a million reasons, a few:
>>> We need change, first and foremost. He inspires and I have always said great leaders SHOULD INSPIRE. Look, he has inspired so many friends of mine and co-workers, it's like nothing I have ever seen. My old boss and his wife (they are regular folks, not celeb's and not wealthy) are the co-chairs at a big fund raiser next Saturday in LA with a bunch of celeb's, they contributed 10K of their own money because they believe in him and need the change. He's bringing the community together, everyone is working to make this happen. Wow!
Right you are…”wow.” The last thing that Obama has done is “bring people together.” He can’t even bring the Democrat Party together. And what he doesn’t “inspire” is confidence. He demonstrates his inexperience and lack of judgment on a daily basis…not the kind of man I want sitting in the Oval Office.
>>> He’ll provide tax cuts for the middle class, affordable health care, and a new energy economy that creates millions of jobs.
No, he will not. His “tax cuts” amount to $400-$600 spread over the year for roughly 55% of the people…YIPEE!!! I’m just in a tizzy wonderin’ where I’m gonna spend that extra $40 bucks a month. Maybe I’ll do what Obama suggests and buy a computer! You can buy a computer for $40 a month, can’t you?
The other 40% of Americans don’t actually pay taxes so they can’t really get a “tax break” now can they? What Obama wants to do for them is to “pay” them for being poor. On top of the $800 BILLION dollars he wants to spend on his socialist programs, he wants to spend another $80+ BILLION sending out $600 checks to 40% of Americans.
Do you honestly think that ALL of that spending can come from raising the taxes of the top 5% of Americans? And now with the government poised to bail out Wall Street to the tune of a TRILLION dollars…where is the money going to come form for Obama’s tax cuts and socialist programs? Especially after Obama has already said that he will NOT rescind the Bush tax cuts with a poor economy. Do you see the economy turning around in the next 6 months?
>>> John McCain wants to keep giving huge tax cuts to corporations,
Corporations use their money to grow…period. When a corporation grows it creates economic wealth and jobs. When it is hit financially, like with Obama’s tax increases, it responds by downsizing. “Downsizing”…now that’s a word that makes the heart of the American worker jump for joy.
>>> and he offered no solutions for the challenges Americans are facing in their daily lives. He never once offered a solution in last night’s debates.
Of course he did. He’s for lower taxes for everyone. And his non-punitive attitude towards business creates economic growth which is, again, good for “everyday Americans.”
>>> He didn’t address why he was not giving those who make 250K a year or more a pass and not taxing them slightly more. He appears to protect the rich and wealthy.
Two points…he has stated numerous times why he supports the Bush tax cuts…because they have, quite simply, worked. They have led to jobs and economic growth.
The second point proves the first…Obama has stated that he was going to repeal the “Bush tax cuts”…but a couple of weeks ago he said that he was NOT going to repeal them as long as the economy was weak. This flip flop is a de facto admission that the “Bush tax cuts” DO help the economy and that repealing them will hurt the economy.
>>> He’ll end the war in Iraq responsibly, focus on defeating al Qaeda and the Taliban, and restore America's standing in the world after eight years of disastrous policies.
If we followed Obama’s “inexperience” and “judgment,” Iraq would be in chaos and a breeding ground for terrorists and Iranian influence. Thank God we did not. Besides a politically expedient speech 6 years ago, Obama has been substantively WRONG on every major issue.
And with respect to “America’s standing in the world”…the new European leadership won their offices on pro-America platforms, so unless you suddenly see tourism and immigration hitting the mat, I wouldn’t be too worried about “America’s standing in the world.” It is, however, comforting to note that our enemies and terrorists alike are rooting for Obama.
>>> John McCain wants an unending commitment in Iraq and fails to recognize the resurgent threat in Afghanistan.
Unlike Obama, McCain’s experience allows him to see the bigger picture…that Afghanistan and Iraq are inexorably linked in our efforts in the region. And also unlike Obama, McCain is uniquely aware of the politics of the region and of our own military history. It’s incredibly naïve to believe that we will “pull out” of Iraq when we are, at this moment, building several huge, multi-billion dollar military bases throughout the country. McCain knows that we are going to eventually “pull out” of Iraq like we’ve “pulled out” of Germany, Japan, etc.
>>> John McCain is offering nothing but more of the same failed Bush policies at home and abroad that he has supported more than 90% of the time in the Senate.
To address that 90% thing…most of those were crappy policy votes, not votes on substantive issues, and McCain actually has A RECORD of voting “issue over party.” Still, why would you be surprised to see McCain frequently vote with his party when Obama has done it 97% of the time? That makes McCain 7% MORE “maverick” than Obama. Where is Obama’s record of “reaching across the aisle? Where is Obama’s record of voting “issue over party?” You’re right…it doesn’t exist…doesn’t really add up to the “agent of change” does it? Obama is just another by-the-book-tax-and-spend-Democrat. We deserve better.
>>> Also, a huge factor is someone’s VP.
If it were a HUGE factor then all of the Democrats should revolt over Obama’s HUGE demonstration of poor judgment in choosing a guy who got 1% of the Dem vote over a woman who got 18 MILLION votes.
>>> If God forbid Obama or McCain didn't wake up one morning which can happen you need to see if their VP is strong enough to run this country. Sarah is not qualified and she’s clearly out of her league.
The funny thing is that for “inexperience” to become an issue, our candidate has to die…while your candidate only has to get elected. LOL!
>>> Obama is educated, he gets it, he’s passionate about change, his track record has proven this and I’d put my life in his hands.
What is Obama’s “track record” of “change?” Facts, please.
>>> I’m sorry but Sarah might be a nice lady but she clearly is not prepared or qualified to be holding the second (potentially first) most important job in this country.
Palin has run a town and a state…what has Obama ever run? What is it about 150 days as a freshman Senator that you feel prepares you to be President?
>>> She’s a joke as far as thinking she can pull this off, the journalists that interview her are better informed and that is scary!
The “journalists” were playing “gotcha.” Gibson tried to trap her with the “Bush doctrine.” There is no “Bush doctrine.” It was a farce. Couric tried to trap her with a stupid question about McCain’s voting record that only his biographer would know. Do you honestly think that Obama has that kind of “at the ready” knowledge of Biden’s 35 year legislative record? Nah, not really…but the suck up press isn’t about to try and trap the Wunderkind with that kind of cheap ploy. Couric didn’t even point out to Biden that his story about Roosevelt and TV was complete crap…but she’ll press a stupid point of minutia when is serves her ideological agenda.
>>> He chose her hoping to gain the white female vote (well, he didn’t get mine; it made me think this was more of a desperate attempt on his part).
Got a LOT of others though…including a lot of Democrats.
>>> McCain does not show Obama the same respect Obama showed McCain last night. That's not a great leader! He was snarky, kept saying Obama didn’t understand as if he was throwing a fit and even lied when Obama caught him and called him on it.
You’re mistaken. McCain showed Obama the respect that he deserved, and pointed out Obama’s mistakes, his inexperience, his naiveté and his incredibly poor judgment. All things the American people deserve to know.
>>> Sorry, he does not have the integrity we need in a President and yes, he’s 72 years old, that is a huge factor, he was wanting to bail out on the debates Mississippi spent 5 million dollars preparing for (great, let’s throw more debt on the economy) which clearly says I’m not capable of multitasking, as a President, you have to DO IT ALL.
Heavens, who would want a sitting Senator to be in Washington doing his job instead of campaigning? “Country first” isn’t a slogan you can attribute to Obama. His “they’ll call me if they need me” attitude just shows how irrelevant he really is.
Both men want to be President, and one will inherit the economy in a few months along with the deal that has been put in place. It’s telling that McCain wants to be an integral player in crafting the deal that his administration will inherit while Obama is content to vote “present” and let others do his work for him…but I’m sure they’ll fill him in on the details once they get done.
>>> His track record in the senate. I could go on and on but I won’t
Thanks, it’s pretty tough to listen to someone go “on and on” about nothing. Obama has no substantive record in either the State Senate or the US Sentate to speak of. Some of the funniest video clips I’ve seen are Obama supporters trying to answer the question…”can you name any of Obama’s accomplishments?” LOL!
>>> Look, I admire John McCain’s path, I have NO IDEA how he survived Vietnam, that’s an unbelievable story and how he was tortured but he clearly is not bias based on this (think of a murder trial and your picking jurors, you want them to not be unbias), it left a bad taste in his mouth that says WAR we MUST WIN and in life, that’s not always what’s best for our country. JMHO.
You think that it’s unnecessary to win the wars we wage? You must be an Obama supporter.
