Thank you - I suspected as much but did not want to assume. I was in high school during the end of the Vietnam War and probably sheltered from much of the negativity of it by my parents. When I learned more about it, in college, I was appalled at the way returning soldiers were treated. I have never been a supporter of our current war, but I do support the soldiers who are trying to uphold their duty. I wish the Vietnam Veterans had the same support our soldiers get today.
There are many things about Mcain that people aren't thinking about. Either they are too young to remember or they simply don't want to accept them.
Simply put - Kennedy was a war hero - McCain is not.
In my opinion, a person's actions classify them as "heroic" or not - not their status. His actions while being held captive were tantamount to treason... this is why he does not want tose records mad public.
(By the way, I remember you from a while back... I used to be a CL on this board - Nice to see you're still here)
This war is much the same as Viet Nam... we entered it with no exit strategy (still don't have one!) We fought insurgency (it appalls me to hear people, even military personnel, say "we have never fought insurgency before"... sure we did, they didn't learn anything about it then and that's why they don't know anything about it now!
When the 100th Division returned home from Viet Nam they were immediately re-deployed... to, of all places, Detroit! We couldn't solve the problems in our own country yet we were deploying halfway around the world to a war we shouldn't have been in in the first place! (beginning to sound familiar?)
Two points…first, how does it throw our tax system “out of wack” to cut the taxes of the top 5% of Americans who currently pay more than 50% of the taxes…and who will CONTINUE to pay more than 50% of the taxes even after the cuts? If anything, in a fair society, that tax burden should be much more widely spread out.
Because a flat rate is in fact regressive taxation. Because our budget needs to be balanced. Because those who make more also use more services (believe it or not, it extends into intangibles and risk protection.) Because in a capitalist system where profit is inherent and assumed, profiting means overcharging someone but getting them to agree to pay it. So some of that goes to the government to run this nation, to help protect their assets, to help the nation be stable where their profit actually counts for something.
Second, the tax cuts weren’t reckless, they help stimulate the economy. That’s why, after looking at the evidence, McCain changed his position and decided to make them permanent. I know, you’d like to believe Obama’s socialist rhetoric, but let’s look at his actions instead…just a couple of weeks ago, Obama announced that he would NOT rescind the “Bush tax cuts” when the economy was weak. Now just a little logic and common sense here…why would Obama flip flop on his very loudly touted position unless he knew, and it was a fact, that the tax cuts HELP the economy and that rescinding them would HURT the economy?
They were reckless. The government was balancing budgets again, the economy wavered because of 11 September, but would have been rightable in other ways... but conservatives looked at it as a golden opportunity, and they got what they wished for... but it screwed this country big time, creating

Your ideas on what constitutes fair taxing, is flawed. It isn't the dollar amount paid in taxes, it's the percentage.
This was not a failure of a free market or deregulation. It was the result of a liberal policy, pressed and defended by Democrats, to make it easier for minorities and the poor to buy houses.
Actually, you are mistaken here also. First, the mortgage crisis is only a part of the reason for the bank failures. The trickle sown economics didn't work under Reagan, and it isn't working under Bush. McCain was all for deregulation until 2005. The Democrats were powerless in 2005, as the Republicans had total control of everything. Deregulation had everything to do with the current crisis, and any reforms suggested by McCain died in committee. The Democrats never even had a say in it. You are aware of this, as it has been posted many times on this board. You are choosing to ignore the facts, which are verifiable. If you have forgotten McCain was all for deregulation, watch the video that was posted by someone else. I copied the address, so you and others can see for yourselves.

>>> why when Johnny Boy changes his mind do you say the following: "Second, the tax cuts weren’t reckless, they help stimulate the economy. That’s why, after looking at the evidence, McCain changed his position and decided to make them permanent."
Um...because it's true.
But when Obama changes his mind you say: "I know, you’d like to believe Obama’s socialist rhetoric, but let’s look at his actions instead…just a couple of weeks ago, Obama announced that he would NOT rescind the “Bush tax cuts” when the economy was weak. Now just a little logic and common sense here…why would Obama flip flop on his very loudly touted position"
Because Obama didn't come out and admit that he was wrong and that, after considering the facts, I'm changing my position. As usual, he offered us his usual song and dance and then "promised" to rescind the "economy damaging" tax cuts later, when the economy is stronger (i.e. can stand the damage he wants to do to it.)
See the difference?...McCain, thoughtful, and not entrenched in his ideology. Obama...knee jerk reaction to a change in the political winds and a refusal to admit that he was wrong.
>>> Are republicans the only ones who are allowed to change their opinions with time and additional information? If so it explains a lot, if not how do you explain all the 'flip flops' Johnny Boy has been making lately? Just wondering.
You'll have to be specific about what McCain has said and why you feel he has flip-flopped.
If Obama gets elected? Absolutely. But I don't give him strong odds for living through the first term. I think Hillary will kill him in his sleep. LOL!
