I don't think it's as much about saving face as it is that he cannot distinguish fact from fantasy and firmly believes that he was right (still searching for those weapons of mass distruction). Some people, even when they are shown to be wrong, simply cannot admit that they made a mistake. That's a dangerous quality to have as a leader.

(by the way, does cl-tgowens ring a bell?)

When - what year were they deployed to Detroit? During the riot? We moved to Detroit two weeks before the riot - I was in 3rd grade - scary times! We had to have blackout shades and couldn't walk in front of windows at night. It really sticks with you - the fear - but I didn't understand what was going on at the time, just kind of thought we had moved to a really scary place!

Absolutely, I remember you! It's nice to have you back. We need another voice of reason around here! E-mail me, tell me what you've been up to.

I've felt Bush was dangerous, from the very first day. Even before then! Knowing his history, and his track record, I hated to see him get elected. He's like a petulant little boy, who's been given the world to play in.

So I guess I understand now - and I'm paraphrasing - its the old "we're right and you're wrong" song and dance, kind of thought that anyway. That's cool, just so we know what kind of kookies to swallow with our kool-aid.

Good to see you again T! Hope you'll take shorter breaks (if at all)..... I thought I had recognized you here (seeing your reasoned and thoughtful posts), and now I'm sure ;-)

I'm still here...... trying to understand the US political debate-culture...

Hope you are well :)

>>> Your ideas on what constitutes fair taxing, is flawed. It isn't the dollar amount paid in taxes, it's the percentage.

Factor it any way you like...the top 5% pays more than 50%, and 40% of Americans pay nothing. As usual, all you kids want is a hand-out paid for by someone else.

< This was not a failure of a free market or deregulation. It was the result of a liberal policy, pressed and defended by Democrats, to make it easier for minorities and the poor to buy houses.

>>> Actually, you are mistaken here also. First, the mortgage crisis is only a part of the reason for the bank failures.

The sub-prime mortgages are at the heart of the current crisis.

>>> The trickle sown economics didn't work under Reagan, and it isn't working under Bush.

If it doesn't work, then why did McCain change his position on the "Bush tax cuts" and why has Obama said he won't rescind them in a poor economy?

>>> McCain was all for deregulation until 2005.

Sorry, I don't swallow propaganda.

>>> The Democrats were powerless in 2005,

Um...if that's the case, why didn't the Bush and McCain proposals to reform Fannie and Freddie ever happen? Specifically please.

>>> as the Republicans had total control of everything.

Like the Dems do now? Gosh, I wonder how you can explain why the Dems, who control Congress, haven't accomplished ANYTHING in the last two years?

>>> Deregulation had everything to do with the current crisis, and any reforms suggested by McCain died in committee. The Democrats never even had a say in it.

Except that they voted in a block to kill the bills and Barney Frank and Chris Dodd did everything they could to oppose the reforms..."These two entities—Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—are not facing any kind of financial crisis," said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. "The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing."

>>> You are aware of this, as it has been posted many times on this board. You are choosing to ignore the facts, which are verifiable.

Then verify the "facts" you've stated. Prove that the "Democrats never even had a say" in killing the reforms proposed by McCain and Bush.

>>> If you have forgotten McCain was all for deregulation, watch the video that was posted by someone else. I copied the address, so you and others can see for yourselves.

This moronic tripe again? Try reading a few facts instead of propaganda...

>>> The Republicans get credit/blame for anything which occured in 2005.

Only if you're a liberal who has spend the last 7 years with your head in the sand.

Here's a history lesson, which basically teaches us that in order for capitalism to work the CONSUMERS need to have a fair share of the national income:

(I have no idea what you were talking about in your last reply to me--pulling humor behind a truck? I don't own a truck as I'm an environmentalist and trucks eat way too much gas.)
