I watched rather detachedly last night (writing fiction while listening) and the only comment I made on Twitter was how Obama was right on on talking with no preconditions. Both talked over the other, failing to let each say their piece. McCain was condescending at times.
This morning the CBS radio affiliate in Boston stated an overnight poll showed those polled believe Obama won by something like 40-22%
This might be because McCain is impulsive - like Bush - and Obama is reflective. Shooting from the hip sounds decisive but is often the cause of the back peddling that McCain has been forced to do of late. I prefer a president who thinks before he speaks - who considers his words well, and does not have to spend time back peddling when he finds out he is wrong. But if you want a president just like the one we have had for the last 8 years, no reflection, not much thinking before acting, go right ahead and support McCain. Seems to me we will only continue down the same disastrous path we are currently on with his leadership so I am looking for a more reflective, intellectual president. Guess that makes me an elitist!
You probably think it's anti-American to speak a foreign language. You'd never want a a foreign diplomat to think that our president would stoop to the level of the lowly foreigners and speak the way they do, would you?

A little hesitation makes me believe there's some thinking going on. I admire that in a speaker. I worry that someone who speaks without hesitation would ACT the same way. A president who does that could be dangerous for our nation.
I am just curious, was anyone else annoyed when Obama said I have a bracelet too but then had to look down and read the name instead of knowing it off the bat? That so annoyed me! If you are going to use someone especially a fallen soldier as a point at least know their name without having to look for it!!!
Obama got his from the MOTHER of a dead soldier. I think Obama was going to do the normal comeback to McCain's comment and realized he had to rephrase it and say the bracelet was from the MOTHER. If he'd mistakenly said it was from the soldier, the GOP would be jumping all over him.
As I said before, I want a president who thinks before he speaks. McCain had the bracelet line planned in his speech. Obama thought before he spoke in response to McCain's line,
I don't know if it is remembering lines, I think it is more to do with a personal style. McCain is more of an impulsive shoot from the hip person. You can see that whenever he speaks. Obama is a more reflective speaker - it is apparent whenever he speaks.
I am not impressed by impulsive speakers - part of my training as a teacher maybe since my impulsive students frequently want to answer before I have finished asking the question and therefore are answering the wrong question. I prefer a candidate who thinks before he/she speaks. Just personal preference.
Just curious - what planet do you think you are on? Is the economy better there? Do teachers get paid better?

In the end, not sure it has much impact.

OK, I'm sorry, I am not trying to be insulting at ALL...
But do you really think Obama (or McCain, but you've already had it out for him) made that stuff up on the spot?

To me
LOL yeah that was stupidly transparent, about the bracelet, and extremely disrespectful.
Obama DID come off as that idealistic college-aged President of the Student Government.
McCain got his bracelet from a soldier.
