Early Poll Results Suggest More Uncommitted Voters Saw Obama As Debate Winner
Posted by Brian Montopoli| Comments47

CBS News and Knowledge Networks conducted a nationally representative poll of approximately 500 uncommitted voters reacting to the debate in the minutes after it happened.

These figures are still preliminary and could change as more respondents complete the survey. But here's what we have so far:

Forty percent of uncommitted voters who watched the debate tonight thought Barack Obama was the winner. Twenty-two percent thought John McCain won. Thirty-eight percent saw it as a draw.

Forty-six percent of uncommitted voters said their opinion of Obama got better tonight.

Sixty-eight percent of uncommitted voters think Obama would make the right decisions about the economy. Forty-one percent think McCain would.

Forty-nine percent of these voters think Obama would make the right decisions about Iraq. Fifty-five percent think McCain would.

We will have a full report on the poll later on. Uncommitted voters are those who don't yet know who they will vote for, or who have chosen a candidate but may still change their minds.

And so do those who voted on MSNBC:

I agree with you on everything you said....except one thing :)

While, again, I am NOT a McCain supporter, I DID admire his willingness to suspend his presidential campaign.

Except that he is not on the committee working on the issue and according to what I read yesterday his presence did not help at all. I posted something on that yesterday - if I have time I'll look for it again. Time to teach my daughter to drive - I so hate this part of parenting!

What would you expect Fox to say?

I think speaking skills are important, but not as important as how well you do your job of running the country, and Bush has neither. His speaking skills were horrid, and he really made a mess of our country!

it matters b/c he not only has to speak to voters and citizens but world leaders.

If you're referring to the "Question of the Day" part of the site, it's dynamic. Currently shows a draw; with 50% saying Obama won and 50% saying McCain won.

I wish Obama had not tried to respond when McCain was making statements with which Obama didn't agree. McCain kept going and Obama looked ineffectual. He should have waited until his turn and then rebutted all the half-truths.

McCain did a remarkable job of keeping his cool. He's not normally so contained when under attack. IMHO, Obama should have been more aggressive. Maybe John would have cracked and showed what he's like in moments of stress--face-making is small potatoes compared to some of his other reactions!

it's still not official yet. many believe that it is a tie. i have to say it's hilarious....the fact that some news places obama as a winner, another as McCain as a winner and others a tie. what shall we ever believe?
