This bail-out (which at this point, they tell us, is too necessary to be negotiable - which I don't believe based on the research I've done)...

This is OUR tax money people!!!  Nobody cares.

Listen, I went through my phase as an idealist when I was younger; I'm over that.  I'm not stupid nor uninformed.  This bail-out, however, is complete horse poop, and anyone who understands it fully will agree ( I think).  The Fed.....

I say, let it all crash and burn.  I'd rather dig my way out on my own.

I disagree. Those are the people who deserve the least amount of blame.

There is nothing wrong with having a line of credit available to tap in emergency situations, but to be tapping into it on a regular basis is wrong, IMO.

>>How did we get to that point? Why should businesses being borrowing money to fund their day-to-day operations? <<

My current understanding is that the day-to-day borrowing is called "commercial paper". It's not a problem. It becomes a problem when the money isn't free floating.

>>We need to let this economy suffer whatever happens with NO government help at all to knock some sense into all of us! <<

How far are you willing to take this "suffering"? Homelessness? Lack of medical attention? Starvation?

Here comes a small business person, maybe, explaining how the borrowing works.

If the bailout would fix that, maybe I could support it. Why not use the $700 billion to address those problems directly? The bailout supporters believe in the trickle down theory....I think we'll see only the losses trickle down to the homeless, the uninsured and the hungry.

I agree that we all need to get a loan to tide us over occasionally. And if it's rare, that's fine.

I wish I could find the historical stats, for the past 20 years, on the extent to which businesses funded their daily operations with short-term loans. Don't have the time to look right now. But I bet we'll find that it's increased exponentially, just as household credit has, simply because the credit exists, and IN GOOD TIMES, there's profit to be made by taking advantage of it.

Well, we should have learned by now that the good times don't ever last forever, and that if we can restrain ourselves, be satisfied with earning a little less on our investments in the good times, then we won't crash in the bad times.

How it will play out:

No matter how brilliant the bailout, homelessness and hunger are not going to be improved. My comment was addressed to those who think there should be no action so that "people will learn their lesson" for not having used "personal responsibility".

I questioned those in support of no bailout about how severe the penalty should be. If this mess is anywhere near the level that the PTB are supposing, inaction will probably lead to homelessness, hunger, and lack of medical treatment for a whole lot of people.
