Nice to see you have such a level-headed, objective view of those who don't share your opinion on firearms and firearms law.

Oh, I'm fully aware of the guns that were available then. I've even handled some replicas. They were heavy, unwieldy, unreliable, and even with a cloak and/or long coat were difficult to conceal.

Furthermore, you couldn't exactly carry one loaded and ready to shoot at a moment's notice.

That would depend on who you were, where you were, and what you were doing.

Perhaps I should state it better--you could not holster a loaded and ready to shoot at a moment's notice any handgun from that period. They were single-shot, breach-loaded (some were muzzle loaded still), flintlocks. While it was relatively safe to carry a hunting rifle loaded and ready to shoot, holstering a loaded and ready to shoot handgun would have been a fairly foolish thing to do.

I think this whole thing is being blown out of portion.

If one owns an arm that is concealable, it is quite easy to carry it with or without permit, no?

I have no problem with rifles and shotguns, but I see very little real need for handguns. I'm a good shot, and I can see a big difference between my occuracy with a rifle than with a handgun.

Actually, if I remember the statement correctly it was 1 gun a month.
