Bailout being rejected, thoughts?

Hi –

The bailout being rejected is not a good thing, it affects EVERYONE.  Banks have no money, we have no money (generally speaking).

I was speaking with a co-worker that said the Democrats insisted the Parachute Clause be put into the plan otherwise they’d vote against it (keeping Exec’s from these millions of dollars) so that is why the Republican’s majority anyhow rejected it.  They are so greedy and now they have cut their nose to spite their face.

Thoughts everyone?

How many pounds of peanuts are consumed in the United States each year?

2.4 billion pounds! About 50% is consumed as peanut butter.

Agree. That’s why I’m wondering if he’d do it “if” she is not a success at the debates but as you said then everyone will question his judgment “unless” she uses the old family emergency excuse which of course no one will buy (well, some will that believe anything the media tells them).

Thanks for the expose of the suspension of the 'mark-to-market' rule. I knew it isn't a good thing, but could never explain it like the professionals.

Just glanced over the Senate bill and the equity language is the same. The only equity stake the taxpayers get is through our purchase of shares, after purchasing all their junk assets. That stinks.

The other thing that jumped out is that it increases the current statutory debt limit to $11.3 trillion. Bush's budget projects the FY2007 debt will reach about $9.0 trillion, $12 billion over the current limit.

I'm not sure what you are getting at. I've talked about the regulatory environment and such right along.

I reacted specifically to your claim CEOs would bail.

Now on that score, let 'em go. There are others who can do the job.

but you have got to be kidding me, CEO's should be punished if they cut employees so the company does better.

Yup, you cut jobs, you feel the pain right with those who just lost their employment. Not the investors, the CEO who makes the call. The company will still be healthy - isn't that your concern? If the CEO won't do it because of losing a bonus, what does it say about their level of commitment to the company?

I feel the same way about the presidency, actually... take this country to war when we have not been attacked, with allowances for minor needs, but overall, take us to war, you *must* resign. Think Bush would have invaded Iraq if he had to resign? And if he would not, what does that say about his original decision?

Anyway, I digress... but it was fun. ;-)

"The vote was not fully supported by Pelosis' Dems "

Actually, it was supported by the Dems as planned. It was 12 Republicans who reneged at the last minute because they got petty about Pelosi's tone, as if that were more important than passing the bill and there was no other way of expressing their disapproval than spiting the nation with a no vote.

Hi SP! Sorry to be MIA today. Have been busy w/a bunch of stuff. I did not hear the CNN rumors about any possible SP replacement strategy -- but it wouldn't surprise me at all -- clearly it's getting down to the wire. Also, as things with the economy & other geo-political issues get more troubled, the potential presidential leadership is going to be scrutinized even more. It's not going to be about who 'looks or sounds good' -- it'll be about who really has the skills to lead this country through what is potentially going to be a difficult 2 yrs, at a minimum, economically, & who knows what's ahead of us w/the political hotspots in the world.

We'll all be tuned to see what happens tomorrow night!

Hi, again! Thought I'd respond to your 2nd post, as you posted it separately!

My son's performances are going to be this coming weekend. He's with a local franchise of 'School of Rock' -- so they get to perform at 'real' venues! He's a bass guitarist & vocalist, but has been put on a lot of songs for vocals!

Interesting story about your visit to Jimi's grave! I wasn't aware that Jimi's grave is in Seattle.

Do you have kids?

I'm gonna check out the action on the Senate vote w/their version of the 'rescue/bailout bill.'

peace, HB
