Bailout being rejected, thoughts?

Hi –

The bailout being rejected is not a good thing, it affects EVERYONE.  Banks have no money, we have no money (generally speaking).

I was speaking with a co-worker that said the Democrats insisted the Parachute Clause be put into the plan otherwise they’d vote against it (keeping Exec’s from these millions of dollars) so that is why the Republican’s majority anyhow rejected it.  They are so greedy and now they have cut their nose to spite their face.

Thoughts everyone?

How many pounds of peanuts are consumed in the United States each year?

2.4 billion pounds! About 50% is consumed as peanut butter.

I definitely caught Joe Biden's truly touching moment when he was discussing the tragedy that befell his family & how he had to keep the family together & work at the same time.

I know that Biden practiced keeping his focus and not pointing out 'smaller' things that would work against him.

SP's folksiness did get to me -- as you pointed out, she definitely fell into that mode when she was on a topic that was a weaker area for her. She was definitely encouraged to keep reminding her audience of the things she has in common with fellow 'middle class' citizens. Biden was able to present his socio-economic background & history in a much more elegant way. Then he was able to make the direct connection to the condition of the economy. I felt that the more references she made to her world in Alaska, the more detached & unequipped she appeared to be for Washington!

I think Biden did a much better job of outlining Obama's positions, and strengths, very specifically, as opposed to SP's pat responses/statements that she kept repeating in reference to her & McCain.

Have a good night!

Hey sP!

That 'flowchart'/'cheat sheet' was hysterical -- thanks for sharing!

I think the pundits have exhausted their analysis of the VP debates -- there really wasn't much gained in terms of 'undecided' voters -- if anything, polls showed that Biden benefited. The fact that Palin approached the debate w/the strategy of not 'following the rules' -- ie. not answering questions, directly, etc. just shows that she really wasn't there for a debate, at all -- just an opportunity to reiterate the same 'ole talking points, over & over!

The next P debate will be more 'revealing' in terms of digging deep into the issues -- let's hope! I'm looking for McCain to address the 'real' state of the economy -- not the fantasy one -- he appeared so out of touch by his statement that the economy was 'fundamentally' sound, when it couldn't be further from the truth!

I'm glad that the 'rescue/bailout' bills passed, but am disappointed that so many special interest funding add-ons were included ($110 billion worth!) -- I guess these were traded for votes to pass the bill. Clearly the fin'l mkts only see this as the first step to stabilizing the economy -- not the 'fix'. Their choice was between 'bad' and 'worse' if no bills were passed. I believe we've already been in a recession, and that without working on the 'bad loan/asset' problem for the banks, the economy will fall into an even faster, deeper & prolonged decline, and the rest of the world economies will follow. I wouldn't be surprised if the Fed cuts interest rates in the near future.

Have a great weekend!

peace, hB
