Bailout being rejected, thoughts?

Hi –

The bailout being rejected is not a good thing, it affects EVERYONE.  Banks have no money, we have no money (generally speaking).

I was speaking with a co-worker that said the Democrats insisted the Parachute Clause be put into the plan otherwise they’d vote against it (keeping Exec’s from these millions of dollars) so that is why the Republican’s majority anyhow rejected it.  They are so greedy and now they have cut their nose to spite their face.

Thoughts everyone?

How many pounds of peanuts are consumed in the United States each year?

2.4 billion pounds! About 50% is consumed as peanut butter.

It's not semantics, its called common sense; when you are the majority you have the power to either pass or defeat bills. If the Democrats wanted the bill passed, they would have rallied the 95 or so democrats that voted against it.

But I understand how that gets lost since the majority (that would be the party with the most votes) is so busy blaming the minority party (the party with the least votes) that they seem to forget that they (the Democrats) control both the House and the Senate (ie have the most votes)...

If the Democrats actually wanted this bill to pass, it would have...235 to 199 (with the independent going either way).

The Republicans are responsible for a lot of things, but Democratic Party disunity and the Democrat's inability to get legislation passed when they are the majority are not two of them.

There was probably some language and provisions in the Bill that neither party liked. If they didn't agree with certain aspects, why should they vote for it, just to make Bush happy?

Why couldn't the speaker of the house get her own party, she only needed 12 more votes, to go along with the bill?
