Bailout being rejected, thoughts?
| Mon, 09-29-2008 - 3:35pm |
Hi –
The bailout being rejected is not a good thing, it affects EVERYONE. Banks have no money, we have no money (generally speaking).
I was speaking with a co-worker that said the Democrats insisted the Parachute Clause be put into the plan otherwise they’d vote against it (keeping Exec’s from these millions of dollars) so that is why the Republican’s majority anyhow rejected it. They are so greedy and now they have cut their nose to spite their face.
Thoughts everyone?

How many pounds of peanuts are consumed in the United States each year?
2.4 billion pounds! About 50% is consumed as peanut butter.

Sure, that's the theory.
What would keep genuinly good CEO's from bailing and moving to India (or whereever) where pay isn't regulated.
Among the 95 dems who voted no on the bill were 12 dems on Barney Frank's committee. This is the committee that wrote the bill. I believe it was 13 dems from Pelosi's state voted no. I heard on the news that Pelosi told dems who were up for re-election to vote no.
The dems are extremely dishonest to seek out cameras and blame the republicans for the defeat of the bill. I actually think they need to rewrite the bill and come up with a better solution but am also sick of the dems playing politics with this bill and blaming the republicans.
I don’t have the answer, just ideas I’m tossing but whatever “the cap” depending on the area you live in obviously living in NYC will be different than living in Dallas, TX. 150-600 for a base. I think they should be able to make more via BONUS similar to if you own your own company the sky’s the limit – if they come in, take over and actually generate revenue/profit for the company then the should be awarded via bonus structure accordingly. If they don’t make a profit they don’t make a bonus. That’s what bonuses were *generally* set up for with these big CEO’s. If they are *good* they will show you how good they are right? That is what sales is all about and the CEO is in charge essentially of everyone which includes hiring the right peeps, having a plan to generate as much revenue as they can per quarter for the company.
Thank you HBunny for taking the time to respond – appreciate it. I also agree with everything you wrote and you appear to really know what you’re talking about.
Hey SP! Thanks for responding. No, I didn't see Larry King last night, but heard about it. While I'm not a huge Suze fan -- I know she tries to give good advice, in general & understands the situation. (I'm in the fin'l planning business, so I have a keen interest in what's going on in the mkts). I just don't feel that every thing Suze recommends is 'right' for all investors out there.
I think that the more 'education' that every one gains towards more clarity about what's going on -- the better it is so that each of us can make wise choices given the difficult economic and political environment these days.
BTW, I am a Obama supporter -- however, neither candidate has all the answers & whomever is elected will be inheriting a ton of complex problems for which there are no easy fixes or answers. So, it's no surprise that a lot of what is coming out of both parties is somewhat similar, in tone. The country is facing a lot of 'uncharted territory, so it's more important, than ever, to have bi-partisan cooperation in dealing with these serious issues. The bottom line is how can the country move forward without adding to the ever-growing budget deficit that our grandchildren & great-grandchildren will be paying for.
Hey Bunny-
Hi, again, SP! Sounds like you've had your share of fin'l ups & downs -- as most of us have. Good for you for managing your credit card use so judiciously. I'm pretty sure you're correct about Suze's past credit issues -- the cool thing is she is so passionate about making sure that others don't fall into the same problems that she's experienced. Suze has the benefit of making tons of money through her shows, books, etc., so asset allocation is not the most critical issue for her.
Awareness is power, and you can never stop learning! You got it right that many people don't use credit wisely & don't understand how what they do affects their credit scores & their ability to borrow in the future. There's also a misunderstanding about the fact that part of your score is based on how much of your total outstanding credit you are utilizing -- ie., the lower the percentage, the better -- the idea is not to charge up to the max! As you probably know, now the insurance cos. check applicant's credit scores before issuing policies, so one may pay more if their credit score is low. I can relate to the idea that admin. work can become boring -- I'd had a variety of jobs in the fin'l services industry -- so I know that they are not all exciting & fun all the time! The main reason that I got into fin'l planning to help people plan for their future -- I don't sell products (ie. work for commisions) so there's no potential conflict of interest!
As you pointed out, what we're seeing in the political campaigns is the typical name-calling & bashing -- there has been studies that show that the more 'negative' the ads/attacks are -- the more 'attention' they get from viewers. The tough thing is that there are those who are so 'gullible' that they'll believe every thing they see & not question the veracity of what's being said!
As to your 'p.s.' -- I'll just say that I think that Sarah Palin is very 'brave' to subject herself & her entire family to the intense scrutiny that a political campaign entails. I also feel that she is sacrificing precious time that could be spent with her children -- who need their mother desperately, and she has a lot ahead of her in raising her precious newborn with down's syndrome. Children are a gift, and we only have so much time to instill the values they need to cope with the complex world when they are out on their own. Lucky for McCain that he has such an attractive running mate to deflect attention from his missteps. Many towns & cities have more issues, residents & budgets than the entire state of Alaska -- so there are mayors who've had more experience than she'll ever have, even from this campaign.
peace, HB
