First Palin is a foreign policy expert because Alaska is close to Russia. Now McCain believes Palin is the TOP ENERGY EXPERT in the US because Alaska has oil.

Sometimes the jokes just write themselves.

What's even more funny is that she is such an expert on oil but doesn't know how much they produce.

Sadly, it was not OIL which Palin claimed Alaska produced "20% of," but rather, energy, an altogether different matter, and one for which 20% is a VAST overestimate:

Let me speak specifically about a credential that I do bring to this table, Charlie, and that's with the energy independence that I've been working on for these years as the governor of this state that produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy..."
- Sarah Palin (interviewed by Charles Gibson

Not sure about the Alaska state figures, although it's worth noting that Palin wasn't Governor in 2003, the year from which your figures come, so it's unlikely she would have been referencing those specific figures from memory of personal involvement, even if they ARE true. Here's what the US Government's Energy Information Administration had to say about it - for LAST year:

Alaska total production: 263,595,000 barrels. Total US production: 1,848,450,000 barrels.

Do the math? 14.26% of all US oil production comes from the state of Alaska. But that's nowhere NEAR the claim "20% of all ENERGY in the US comes from Alaska.

Ma, whenever ya see a cop beatin' a guy

Wherever a hungry new born baby cries

Wherever there's a fight against the blood and hatred in the air

Look for me ma'

I'll be there

Wherever somebody's strugglin' for a place to stand

For a decent job or a helpin' hand

Wherever somebody is strugglin' to be free

Look in their eyes ma,

You'll see me!

And Alaska shares a massive land border with Canada, that still doesn't make her an expert on foreign policy! :)

There is a difference between producing xx percent of America's production and producing XX% of America's consumption. Just something to think about if you decide to watch the video.

But here's a better one. She has become a self-parody.

With this type of reasoning, I should qualify as an ambassador. 40 years within spitting distance of Michigan makes me an expert on; The Auto Industry, Motown and um...how did McCain put it, the "aggressive behaviour" of our neighbour, makes me an expert on foreign policy. Y'know all that neighbourly chit chat with Homeland Security when I do a river run.
