Never - ever - have I heard more a vacuous, vapid response to a question from a major candidate for public office:

Please, people. Please. You cannot put this bimbo in the White House.

Others, including the New York Times , claimed that Mayor Palin fired librarian, Mary Ellen Baker (aka Mary Ellen Emmons), president of the Alaska Library Association at the time.
Time Magazine furthered the smear in their article, "Mayor Palin: A Rough Record" . Also, Obama's own website is furthering this fraudulent list .
The Truth
Sarah Palin Never Fired The Librarian and The Banned Books List is Bogus The website where the original smear started, Librarian.Net , says the banned books list is bogus and came from an old University list of banned books .
The "banned books list" includes books that were published after 1996 (like Harry Potter).
The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons (now Baker), was not fired but instead resigned in August 1999, two months before Palin was voted into her second term.
We ask Mr. Obama to denounce these smears and to remove them from his website immediately.

((Is this just part of lowering our expectations, so we'll be blown away by her being able to string together a few sentences at the debate?))
Post debate...that's exactly what happened. That's the choice with McCain and Palin. He is such a poor choice that when she gets up in front of people, especially the GOP, they holler and scream for any sliver of hope that she will become the face of the republicans.
The problem is that other than her face, she also brings ignorance, narrow-mindedness, zero insight into her own behavior, and lack of curiosity for American history. She will be doomed to repeat the failures of the Bush43 admin, because she isn't even aware of what they are. As evidenced by her telling Biden that he was looking at the past (Bush43 admin) even though the Bush43 admin. is STILL in power. lol. She's thick. lol.
((If you are on the right and take her seriously, which I think the right does, this is very troubling.))
Yes, very troubling, that someone will vote for her even though she is obviously lacking in every serious area: history, the law, foreign affairs, and the economy just to name a few.
She lacks insight into her own life by not knowing any papers or magazines that she reads, thinking that Alaska did trade missions with Russia, when they did not, and not remembering that she met a foreign dignitary as governor. The only true area of expertise that she can tout is excessive use of hair spray and winks. lol.

((According to our sources, Franklin D. Roosevelt was the first president to speak on television. Roosevelt spoke at the opening session of the New York World's Fair on April 30, 1939.
Perhaps this is the source of your confusion: The first presidential address broadcast from the White House was Harry S. Truman's speech about food conservation and the world food crisis on Oct. 5, 1947.))
FDR was the first POTUS that was TELEVISED. On TV! And he had to deal with the economy as a result of the market crash. At least his error in years is within a few years of his intended statment...Sarah knows close to nothing about history. She thinks people and dinosaurs existed together. lol.
You have the wrong list - that list is a well-known urban myth (kinda like a compassionate conservative).
Here's one of the books that Palin tried to have banned:
