Palin and her affected "gosh golly gee willickers" persona was beyond annoying. And the winking! This is not a beauty pageant! It really makes me sick when we've got a woman vying for such a high position, and instead of using her brains, she tries to use charm and cuteness to get to the top. It is extremely insulting to me as a woman! If we Americans are dumb enough to fall for this, then we'll be getting exactly what we deserve.
Another thing that irked me is how she blatantly cherry-picked which questions she was going to answer, because God forbid she veer off of her script! And then she played the victim by blaming the Big Bad Mainstream Media and its "filters" for her own flubs. When SNL can parody you using your own words VERBATIM, the problem isn't with the media, lady! She needs to take some of that personal responsibility she's touting and apply it to herself.
Excuse my rant, but as a woman who has worked really hard all my life to get to where I am today, I am really just disgusted by Palin's display last night. I don't want my daughter thinking that stringing some cute folksy phrases together and winking at people is how to get ahead in life. And I don't want her thinking that when she screws up, she can get away with it by blaming everybody else for picking on her because she's a woman. And I definitely don't want her growing up in a country where being an educated and informed intellectual is derided as being "elitist".
I don't see anything wrong in what you call "folksy" speak.
For a long time I've noticed that a characteristic of many Republicans and McCain/Palin supporters is the inability to relate to or empathize with someone who is not JUST LIKE THEM.
There's a lack of tolerance for anyone who is DIFFERENT, in THEIR eyes.
That is one reason I doubt I could ever bring myself to vote for a Republican president.

>>remember Bill Clinton with his country bumpkin twang? How about Jimmy Carter? I never thought of either of them as sophisticated.
Their speech patterns are very, very different from Palin's. I don't think she's stupid. But like others, I don't respond well to her more casual style.
