Hi everyone --

We wanted to get your reaction to the Vice Presidential debate between Senator Joe Biden and Governor Sarah Palin. Did you watch? What did you think -- and who do you consider the winner? Were there any surprises? Tell us what you considered to be the highlights, the low points and everything in between.

Please note: This discussion will be featured on our homepage as well as our Election 2008 feature page (http://www.ivillage.com/0,,dkrjhqbk,00.html) and may elicit some "Guest" responses from our "Talkback" box tool on the page. Inappropriate responses that violate our Terms of Service will be removed.

Obama is in Washington and has worked politically for years he is just as corrupted as the rest of them.

Although the caricature of politicians (especially Senators) is that they are tax-fattened hyenas (h/t Berke Breathed, LOL), or super-rich (My name is Elmer J. Fudd, millionaire. I own a mansion and a yacht.), this isn't always true. Biden is ranked as the least wealthy US Senator. He has had ample opportunity, over thirty-six years in the Senate, to develop contacts and feather his own nest. He has chosen not to do so, which makes him in many of the most important ways NOT a part of the system of kickbacks and corruption which dominate politics today. Even if a Congressperson is not legally corrupt or breaking the law, there's often a quid-pro-quo that happens, and Biden has largely avoided that - over a long career.

On the other hand, sometimes the caricature IS true - John McCain is the eighth-richest Senator (in 2006), with an estimated net worth of $45 million. Having grown up in a household as the son and grandson of Admirals, and then married a beer heiress, I seriously doubt John McCain has ever had to worry about money in his life - and that includes his time as a POW, LOL, where money didn't matter. Joe Biden, however, understands the "kitchen table" issues very well...as does Barack Obama, who grew up with a mother who was once on food stamps. They get it. McCain does not.

The moderator was too soft on Palin IMO. I wished Ifell had been more insistent about the answering

I feel that Joe Biden "won" the debate. My main reason for this is that he actually answered the moderators questions and didn't give an answer without explanation and hurried to speak about energy again. Also he sounds presidential, I can't see Palin talking to Putin and saying "gosh darnnit" I don't think we'll be taken very seriously if she does.
