Hi everyone --

Were there any surprises? Tell us what you considered to be the highlights, the low points and everything in between.

I don't think McCain is more palatable than Obama and I'll tell you why I feel that way.
McCain is running on that "War Hero" platform when, in fact, he is no more of a war "hero" than I am. He and I both served in the Armed Forces during Viet Nam (he in the Navy and I in the Air Force). I did two tours in Viet Nam. I spent my entire service in "active" duty while McCain spent 5 1/2 years in the Hanoi Hilton which, indeed, subjected him to torture but, however, shielded him from "active" duty engaged in a combat role.
Now, McCain was NOT the hero for divulging military secrets and strategies to the enemy. He was NOT the hero by giving up information which caused many of his fellow pilots to be shot down. He was NOT the hero by abetting and allowing the enemy to take additional casualties and POW's as a result of his actions. One must ask themselves two things to assume the correctness of these allegations... 1. Why are his military records concerning his POW status secreted, and, 2. why was he not promoted in rank when released from POW status as others were who had undergone the same type of imprisonment?
As Biden said, "He is no maverick" and as I am saying, he is no hero. To parlay his POW status into his platform for office is, to me, an insult to those who DID fight and serve bravely during the Viet Nam War.
My opinion is that no one who portrays themselves to be something that they are not is a ... well, there are several names... I just do not want them leading the country I am proud of and fought for.
But, then again... isn't EVERY election we have about voting in the lesser of two evils? (relax folks, it's only an expression!)
I think Obama, surrounded with the right cabinet, can achieve quite a bit of what he is proposing. I'm not sure who McCain could get to serve on his cabinet... how many turned down the VP slot before Palin was chosen? 5 or 6 I think...
Talabani is the president of Iraq. That's what she was talking about.
