Hi everyone --

We wanted to get your reaction to the Vice Presidential debate between Senator Joe Biden and Governor Sarah Palin. Did you watch? What did you think -- and who do you consider the winner? Were there any surprises? Tell us what you considered to be the highlights, the low points and everything in between.

Please note: This discussion will be featured on our homepage as well as our Election 2008 feature page (http://www.ivillage.com/0,,dkrjhqbk,00.html) and may elicit some "Guest" responses from our "Talkback" box tool on the page. Inappropriate responses that violate our Terms of Service will be removed.

Thanks for your input!

Right.

That means the VP's only duty is to break ties in the Senate, when necessary, and to act under authority of the President within the executive branch. Nothing else. Palin's reach for "other expanded duties" is extra-constitutional....as have been "Fourthbranch" Cheney's.

>McCain said he broke and was ashamed for it. I wouldn't make judgments on a man that was undergoing horrific torture and how I would react. Were you ever captured and tortured? <

If I had done something that I was ashamed of I wouldn't expect others to be proud of it... would you? I couldn't make it into a "There's only one man here who has ever fought for you" moment.

No, Ihave never been captured and tortured but I certainly know those who have. And, not one of them "broke". THOSE, in my opinion, are the heros.

Yes, McCain SHOULD be ashamed... not only for what he did but for hoping that people today won't know or remember and allowing him to be viewed as a "hero".

My judgements are not so much on a man undergoing horrific torture but rather on his behavior and actions of today as relates to being a POW.

I believe Palin did a very good job. Biden was again a polished speaker. Palin spoke plainly, and to the American people. Biden speaks more to impress on a daily basis. Talking to other lawmakers, to sway people to his opinion.

This is an argument you'll have to take up with other vets.

As an aside, was he acting in his own self interest when he declined release becasue of who his father was, or was that also not heroic.

You mean when he realized he was losing and almost shed some crocodile tears?
