Hi everyone --

We wanted to get your reaction to the Vice Presidential debate between Senator Joe Biden and Governor Sarah Palin. Did you watch? What did you think -- and who do you consider the winner? Were there any surprises? Tell us what you considered to be the highlights, the low points and everything in between.

I noticed that sometimes, too (my youngest, on top of her other stuff, has a hearing impairment and lipreads, and when she was on a ventilator for months recently we had to lipread what she was saying).

"I know that Palin's folksiness is very appealing, but it's not my cup of tea. I'm sure her colloquialisms will play very well with her base and perhaps with some independent voters. They likely irritates some others. (Like me? Confession time, but yes, it's a petty complaint.)"

I agree Laura. I have a hard time with the "doggonits" and such. I can't entirely say that it doesn't smack a little feigned.
My biggest bone of contention with Palin is the clear avoidance of questions she is not prepared to answer. I am not a fan of sheer promotion and little sincere solution in a presidential (or vice presidential) debate. I want to hear where the running mates stand on the issues and then and most importantly what they plan to do about it. Palin was very obvious about her views of government involvement and responsibility but outside of the (vey skewed) solution to public health care she did little to offer the parties collective response to the problems this country is facing in this election that we have not heard from every republican candidate for years (and in an election lie this individual distinction matters.) I felt McCain lacked strength in his presentation of solutions as well during the first debate with Obama (although I'd say that the two were more evenly matched.)
Palin presented herself confidently but substance and solutions were what I as a voter was looking for and in these areas Joe Biden certianly came out ahead.

Palin did exactly as expected. Her opponent in Alaska, stated she won with her "folksiness" or "I am just a middle-class Mom like everyone else" demeanor. I find it annoying too. She knows how to use it, so she doesn't lose points when she doesn't answer the question asked of her. He said she was good at deflecting away from the fact, she wouldn't, or couldn't, answer the question. He said he left the stage having no idea what she had been talking about. That's pretty much what happened tonight. After Biden mentioned how she wasn't answering the questions, she would give her infectious smile, admit she wasn't going to answer the question. She would then praise McCain and criticize Obama on something unrelated to the question.
