Palin Misquotes Albright: "Place In Hell Reserved For Women Who Don't Support Other Women"
October 5, 2008 01:16 AM
At a rally today in California, Gov. Sarah Palin offered up a rather jarring argument for supporting the Republican ticket. "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women," the Alaska Governor said, claiming she was quoting former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
The statement came after Palin had recounted a "providential" moment she experienced on Saturday: "I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, ok? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"
Actually, Albright didn't say that. The real quote is, "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't help other women." (Sources made the same point to CBS's Scott Conroy.)
Palin seemed to realize that the line could be viewed as grating. As the audience cheered, she remarked: "Okay, now, thank you so much for receiving that well. I didn't know how that was gonna go over. And now, California, let's see what a comment like I just made, how that is turned into whatever it'll be turned into tomorrow with the newspaper."
LOL as the audience cheered - must have been the Stepford crowd...

The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay act doesn't only talk about female firefighters vs. their male counterparts, or women in other physically demanding jobs. I have no problem with that sort of thing; I doubt most people do. While each individual will vary, the overall average is that men are taller and stronger than women. That's just the way it is, and is no more sexist to point out in general than saying that women can bear children but men can't would be to point out.
And yes, requirements for physical jobs should be equal, regardless of gender. They should be based upon the actual needs and requirements of the jobs themselves, not upon some arbitrary standard. But that's not even close to what the whole Lilly Ledbetter issue was/is about - nor McCain's stance on it. If women are going to hell for not "supporting other women" (as Palin misquoted Albright), then I'd think running on a ticket with a man who just says "women need more training would certainly qualify a woman for a first-class seat on the Hades Express.
First off, I want to say that I do NOT want Palin anywhere near the whitehouse and I wouldn't help or support her in that endeavor, regardless of any speculation of how that would affect my after life. I have plenty of REAL reasons for this, and I think everyone is making waaaaay to much political hay about her lame attempt at humor & her slight paraphrase of the Starbucks quote of the day.
FYI "Help" is listed as a synonym for "support" http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/support
Does everyone hear thinks she HONESTLY is condemning all women to hell if they don't vote for her, or do you think she found humor in stumbling across the quote at Starbucks while she is campaigning for VP, and decided she could take that quote and inject some of her (lame) folksey humor into her next stump speech ? (and got ONE word wrong, with a word that could be synonoymous with it)
Anyway, that being said, I see a great opportunity hear. Instead of making so much political hay, I think every reporter from hear on out, should ask her questions along these lines, "In light of your Starbuck philosophy on women who don't help (or support) other women, how to you plan on helping women if you become vice president . . ." or even "In light of the special place in hell, what did you do to help Hillary ? Will that special place in hell include registered democrats that did NOT vote for Hillary? "
To me, making so much political hay about this lame attempt at humor is about as foolish as the big to do the republicans made about "lipstick on a pig" Fortunately, I have only seen the haymaking on blogs, I have not heard of anyone from the actual democratic party calling her to task for such a silly misquote.
Of course, jjcruise3, judging from the LOL icon you used, I suspect you too are also being a little bit tongue in cheek ?

I understand that.
**Does everyone hear thinks she HONESTLY is condemning all women to hell if they don't vote for her***
No, of course not!
Ok. If Palin really did say this, then she really is the dumb hick redneck that people say she is.
I don't have to vote for someone simply because they are a woman, and I won't vote for someone simply because they say they are a Christian.
"Wouldn't you have starbucks if you could?
I didn't veer off track from the statement I quoted.
As far as what she said, the one word she used instead of the word that was used by Madeline Albright was essentially the same word.
