In the thread entitled when the Democrats lie, there's a link to the Washington Post.

I was speaking completely hypothetically...and if you think Obabma is an "EXTREMIST RADICAL" - don't ever come to Canada, you'd have a stroke if you encountered some of our candidates! :)

the participants were supposed to answer the questions that the moderator asked. Those were the rules. Either Palin or Biden could have just stood up there and talked nonstop about whatever the heck they wanted to - and that would have been called an ad.

That's exactly it: once in office, both the President and the VP are not going to be able to pick and choose which crises/problems they want to deal with, or in what order. The debates are the closest that the public is going to get to seeing how the candidates - any of them - react to situations they CAN'T control, which require thinking fast on their feet, and knowledge of things - and of what they want to do/accomplish. It's a test not only of how well a candidate can put forward talking points - which is literally all Palin did, and which can be done in any stump speech - but also, more importantly, of how they react under time pressure in a tough situation to things they can't predict or control. The McCain campaign's insistence that the format of the debate be so restricted that it didn't allow Ifill much room to throw a curve ball to either Palin OR Biden robbed the public of that chance. People call Palin's performance "exceeding expectations," but I actually disagree with that. We didn't even get to see her DEAL with expectations; only rattle off pre-drilled talking points...which is little different from your average stump speech.

Of course I would! I voted for Bill Clinton the first time and he was a Democrat. I liked him, and he promised a middle class tax cut. I didn't vote for him the second time because he actually RAISED my taxes instead of the cut he promised.

Just bumping up so if anyone didn't read post 3, they could have another chance.

Now, you may not understand the rules here, but the participants were supposed to answer the questions that the moderator asked.
