>>> No, I'd say the burden of proof lies with those trying to make more of this relationship than there really was.

We don't know what "really was" because Obama has lied.

>>> So far, no one has proven that Obama is lying.

Sure they have. his own campaign has issues statements that contradict Obama's assertion that Ayres was "just a guy from the neighborhood."

>>> He worked with him, he had fundraisers with him...I've done both of those things with people I don't consider close friends, or even friends at all. Acquaintances? Yes. Colleagues? Yes. But neither of those things indicate a close friendship.

You've personally organized and held a fundraiser in your home for an unknown, wannabe politician that you didn't know? Really?

>>> ...and? Does that mean that Palin did not sleep with her husband who was a member of the secessionist party?

It wasn't a secessionist party, as demonstrated by their manifesto.

>>> What do you interpret the desire to vote as to the status of Alaska to mean? Their current status is as a state, why vote on other options unless other options are desired?

Maybe they just want the right to actually "vote." There's nothing particularly radical in their manifesto, so why are you intent on putting words in their mouths to suit your perception of them?

There seems to be some contention in their minds about the validity of Alaska's statehood and they want the validity of a new vote. I didn't find anything about seceding as a primary goal of the group.

According to the Alaskan Independence Party's web site:

"The Alaskan Independence Party's goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:

1. Remain a Territory.
2. Become a separate and Independent Nation.
3. Accept Commonwealth status.
4. Become a State.

The call for this vote is in furtherance of the dream of the Alaskan Independence Party's founding father, Joe Vogler, that Alaskans achieve independence under a minimal government, fully responsive to the people, and promoting a peaceful and lawful means of resolving differences."

The Alaskan Independence Party maintains that Alaska's vote for statehood is "invalid" because "the people were not presented with the range of options available to them" and because "federal government has since breached the contract for statehood." Their web site addresses many questions about Alaskan Secession, including:

1. If Alaska became independent, wouldn't we lose a lot of federal money?
2. If Alaska were independent, what would happen to my social security check, federal pension, or military retirement?
3. If Alaska became independent, would U.S. military bases leave?
4. Under independence, what would happen to all the federal controls and regulations?
5. Would I lose my U.S. citizenship?

I didn't say that McCain was ahead...just that in many polls they are in a statistical tie, and with the whipping Obama's in for with his radical associations, I expect to see a turn around. After all, Obama's gotten a bump for doing pretty much nothing...which, considering his history, is probably his best course of action.

Clearly from what you've posted, the AIP wants to be independent.

Did Obama lie??? I'm not sure. I've never heard or seen Obama's account of this relationship at all. I've heard all of the damage control from his campaign people, but I really haven't seen or heard anything from Obama himself. Does anyone have any sources? I haven't been able to find any and this concerns me.
