I'm sorry, I don't understand your correlation of the Iraq war creating the housing and banking industry issues we have now that led to the bailout package.

Being a mess does not make it uncyclical. This is a bigger scarier mess than any of the other bubbles because there is no aspect of the U.S. economy that this particular bubble does not touch. I certainly hope whomever runs against the Democrats in question brings up any statements/actions that show a lack of foresight. That is, after all, part of the process. However, had Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac been reformed this crisis still would have happened.

Yeah...I suppose if he's been paying 6.9% the past 16 years the bank figures they got more than enough money out of him and they can give him a break now, hoping to loan him some more at a much higher interest rate in a few years.

Peanut, ITA, with the renting issue. I have nothing against people buying homes when they can afford it but once you buy it, it's your baby. Mortgage, taxes, insurance, maintenance, EVERYTHING. Everything from the grass on the lawn to the top of your roof is your responsibility. People will say, "but it's yours..." No, the bank owns it and it's like your basically renting from them. Mortgages take years upon years to pay while you have to do the work and upkeep. I know a lot of people don't agree with me but I know where you're coming from.

Maybe not have stopped it, but it would have been much more contained than it is today.

Thanks and yes that same guy that’s been paying on his house for 16 years. He said to me, last month my water bill was 1900 dollars. My first thought was, *you must have a big house* and he goes *not really* it’s only 1900 square feet. My mouth dropped.

I live in Dallas. Used to live in LA (went to USC). I definitely miss the weather but, especially during this rough period, I'm glad I live and own property in Dallas.
