is anyone watching the debate? What do you think so far? Who is 'winning'? They don't seem to be answering many audience questions.

>>> In your post at 17254.24 in this thread, you mentioned that John McCain had the experience to fix various things. In post 17254.30, Rose asked you, as you have quoted in your response at 17254.34, why McCain hasn't done this yet, with all the time he has been in office. I quote your response below:"We haven't elected him king yet."
Right...unlike Obama, over McCain's 25 year career in Congress he has "fixed" many things dealing with many issues. I took Rose's comment to be referring to the current crisis we're facing, and why McCain hasn't "fixed" it. McCain is not able to act unilaterally to deal with the issue. He has tried to address the issue several times and was rebuffed by the Democrats...hence my reply.
>>> Perhaps you are from a country other than America, or perhaps you are a very young person, who has grown up during the Bush years and knows no different, but contrary to what some people believe in the present administration, we do not elect kings in America. In fact, that attitude is one of the reasons that Obama is winning, that is, Americans are tired of elected officials, especially the President, believing they are selected by God, and have some sort of "divine right" to do as they please, just as kings of old believed.
LOL! Ok...
"at some point in the evening, a light is going to shine down and you will have an epiphany and you’ll say, ‘I have to vote for Barack.’"

>>> Our government harks back to the Age of Greece, combining the Athenian idea of a democracy, in which the voters select their representatives, with the Spartans distrust of a single ruler, such that, like the Spartan's two kings, our government is divided into three co-equal branches.
Dude...turn off "300."
>>> In America, we do not select kings who rule us, but presidents who guide us, who trust us, who believe in us, and who understand that they are one amoug three branches who share power that has its roots in a grant given by the people.
Sounds great...I guess Bush believed in us sooooo much that "the people" granted him a "share of the power" TWICE. Go Bush!
>>> For me, that is what this election is about.
Then for the life of me, I can't understand why you would vote for a racist, elitist, anti-American, socialist like Obama.
Obama was long winded and boring. My mind kept wondering every time he reverted back to his monotonous long winded stump speech. McCain was somewhat boring, too, and missed several opportunities to nail Obama, although he did take advantage of a couple of chances, too. All in all it was a waste of time watching it.
I was also annoyed that it wasn't a real "town hall" debate. I will comment, though, that this is the first time I've seen Tom Brokaw sober in many years. Somebody must have hid his sauce before the debate.
No major mistakes from either candidate unless you count the sleep inducing factors.
You're right about Obama's health care plan. Under McCain's plan, your employer might decide to stop offering insurance. He plans to cut out the tax break employers get for offering insurance. The average cost for insurance if you get it through your employer, is $12,000/year. It's much, much more if you are unimployed. McCain's $5,000/year he's giving the insurance companies for your family, is just a drop in the bucket of the actual costs. That doesn't even address co-pays for medications. Many people will be underinsured with McCain's proposal.

I must have missed it ... what was it?
Obama's 95%, comes from 95% of the people earn less than $250,000. He doesn't plan to raise taxes on anyone making less than that.
In the example your mother gave, that may happen, but I suspect it would be very rarely...if ever. I don't see any insurance company going bankrupt, given the profits they make. I honestly don't think your mother has to worry about her job. The A.N.A. (American Nurses Association)
