is anyone watching the debate? What do you think so far? Who is 'winning'? They don't seem to be answering many audience questions.

I have not seen any scenario under which I pay three times more than JM. I don't pay a water bill. I do pay for gas, but for that payment I get power for my dryer and stove.

BTW, you don't own the street. You are paying to use it and maintain it.

Why should it be the obligation of the citizenry - all of whom need health care from time to time - to allow a for-profit industry which adds nothing to either the quality or the delivery of care to operate in the realm of health care and skim profit off the top of a universally needed service which could easily be administered by the government?

When has a gun been put to someone's head to demand they buy health insurance?

Please tell me what government agency administrates efficiently.

No one is forced to buy health insurance, true....but the cost of health care WITHOUT insurance is, unless one remains nearly completely healthy, prohibitive enough to be potentially ruinous to all but the wealthiest. That's why people need the financial cushion of insurance. But that doesn't mean that there's any inalienable right of private insurance companies to exist as the sole method of delivering it.

That is a very common thing to say. Each of the candidates say it on a regular basis -- heck, they started doing it in the primaries. (I have noticed that Palin says something really long about being privileged, etc., etc.) It doesn't bother me at all to hear either candidate say, "When I'm president..."

hence, the 'IMO' that started my post...

can you expand on this?

A number of those alleged 47 million do need to go away as they are illegal immigrants.

We presently have Medicare for seniors, Medicaid for the poor and disabled, the VA for veterans. There are also numerous city and county hospitals. So private insurance is not the sole means of delivery of health care.

You know McCain really helped out the Anna Nicole Smith's of the world (may she rest in peace), as well as the Paris Hilton's. He flip flopped in being against and then voting for their sorely needed estate tax cuts. Paris Hilton owes her one, even after McCain trashed her for being a celebrity LOL!

THAT'S your answer? Send the illegals away?....and...what, exactly? The problem will just evaporate?

It is for people who do not fit into one of a small number of special categories. Medicare is for the elderly, as you said. Medicaid is for the very poor. The VA only serves veterans. The rest of the working citizenry who are neither retired nor indigent nor veterans? Private insurance.
