Listening to both candidates talking about needing to "reform" entitlements was really scary and infuriating!

I have never heard of home ownership being an entitlement.

Where is the outrahe towards those who bought homes they knew they couldn't afford?

McCain wants the government to pay for all those bad debt home loans.

Actually, "entitlement" has a very specific meaning, when applied to the Federal budget and Federal programs.

Not really my question. There seems to be a lack of holding people responsible for their poor choices. Of course, that's nothing new and not specific to either major party.

What does JM propose to do if and when the government buys these home loans back?

McCain's campaign has said it plans to cut Medicare and Medicaid by $1.3 trillion to pay for his health care plan -- they would have to limit coverage, reduce eligibility, reduce payments to doctors (which reduces access), etc to cut these programs. You can't just budget less, you have to make fewer people "entitled" to the program.

Oh, but JANE, surely the whole "Part D" thing the Republicans passed a few years ago solved all the problems with Medicare, right?

It managed to get some drug coverage for seniors, which is more than Republicans had ever done. Now what exactly is BO proposing to do about the problems of Madicare?

You've got it, Part D created a new entitlement.

Well, over on BO's website he does mention he would like to eliminate the infamous "doughnut hole" of the Medicare D program. He would also like to get rid of the Medicare Advantage program, implying it is wasteful.
