Wealth redistribution goes on constantly - it's called "buying and selling".

Now do you mean "mandatory, government-directed wealth distribution", a/k/a "theft"?

I really don't know what you mean by wealth distribution.

I think it's called taxes.

I think you mean redistribution through the tax code. Yes, i do believe it's the right thing to do with a progressive tax code. The higher the income, the higher the effective tax rate should be. The greedy #$$#$%%$ on Wall Street deserved to be taxed at 80%!

there are "taxes" and then there's "theft".

When people pay taxes that are being used for the "common good", e.g., roads, defense, a police and judicial system, it's not redistribution and theft.

When the government takes money from person "A" and gives it to person "B" without any services being rendered, it's redistribution, and theft.

Ah, a proponent of the "theft" school.

If someone has more than you do, then it's perfectly alright for the government to take it...

What's your response when someone looks at you and considers you a fat cat?

So you believe that Christina Hall, whose story is told in the article in the link, should not receive any help? Should she let her children starve? What would your solution be, or do you simply ignore those who cannot help themselves?

I believe in private charities.

I further believe that if the government took less of our income for redistributive purposes, that there would be more money given to private charities.

As for "ignoring those who cannot help themselves", I'll wager I donate both more time and a higher percentage of my income to charities than most people do.

Good for you! Unfortunately too many wealthy Americans make their largest charitable contributions to their alma maters or their churches. If that money were, in turn, being used to help those most in need, we would have a much better nation with fewer going hungry and fewer homeless. Instead we have mega-evangelical churches spending millions to broadcast their propaganda on television, and private colleges using the incoming donations to further their political agenda or provide scholarships for the kids of the donors.

And that is why I believe in a progressive tax code.
