Conservative pundit says Palin represents 'fatal cancer' to GOP Buzz up!

The liberal Huffington Post reports that David Brooks, a PBS commentator and conservative columnist for the New York Times, said today that Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's scorn for ideas "represents a fatal cancer" to her party.

Here's the account of Brooks' comments, made in an interview with The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg.

Brooks said Palin has a troubling anti-intellectual attitude. "Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas. But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas but to scorn ideas entirely. And I'm afraid that Sarah Palin has those prejudices. I think President Bush has those prejudices," Brooks said.

Brooks said Palin is "absolutely not" ready to be president or vice president, but had praise for nominees John McCain and Barack Obama. The Huffington Post quotes him as saying he has been "dazzled" by some of his interactions with Obama, a Democrat.

I realize people will discount this because The Huffington Post interviewed him, I saw this article in USA Today online. This is the underlying issue I have with Sarah Palin, that David Brooks articulates so well. I really wish McCain had made a better pick of a running mate - this pick makes me question his judgment. I am having a very difficult time getting past it.

True, as a liberal I don't agree much with Brooks' opinions. He did express a view that I have heard from
