The only political ploy was the original bill. The Democrats knew there wasn't a ghost's chance in hell that it would EVER become law. It was a "statement", nothing more. Then the serious negotiations began. When all the details were worked out - Obama did not vote on the FINAL BILL to fund the troops. THAT'S the bottom line.
Biden voted in FAVOR of funding the troops and has chastised Obama for playing politics with the vote when it actually counted.
Here is a quote from President Bush: "I recognize that many Democrats saw this bill as an opportunity to make a political statement about their opposition to the war," Bush said. "They've sent their message, and now it is time to put politics behind us and support our troops with the funds they need."
They started off the negotiations with a political statement, nothing more. They knew from the beginning that it had NO CHANCE of becoming law. Obama did what was in his OWN best interest, what he found to be politically expedient, just like he does with ALL his decisions. With this one, he was playing politics with the lives of our troops. Great that he wants to be Commander In Chief of those same troops isn't it?

I don't believe I'm the one confused here.
"In a nutshell, McCain would not like to see the benefits be so "generous" as to lessen the re-enlistment of our soldiers, what he calls "retention.""
Has he been so stupid as to actually say something like this?

And, a little further down the ticket, in NC, Liddy Dole's, ah, taking some fire, too.
I'm getting the feeling neither Mrs. Dole nor Mr. McCain are gonna be very happy with election day in North Carolina.
McCain's wife concerns me.
