b/c I'd like to know why he wasn't truthful has nothing to do with 'my expectations' .. he quite possibly could be the next POTUS and I'd like to know WHY he elected to be less than truthful about Ayers and Wright.
I'd guess it was a strategic miscalculation.
Obama probably figured that to draw too much attention to the "connections" would lead people to inaccurate conclusions about both the depth of their bonds (little to none) and the importance of the activities of someone from forty years ago to today's challenges facing the next President. He probably figured that rather than try to catalogue in his mind an exacting list of every single time their paths had crossed, he'd instead toss out a basic outline (which, because it's an outline and not a laundry list, is going to leave a few things out), but characterize it fairly: we've worked on educational issues, I don't know him that well, we're not close friends and he's not an advisor of mine. That part of it's all true....what isn't true, now that the harsh glare of "let's examine every single avenue" has been shown upon it, is the completeness of the list of contacts he'd had with Ayers. Does that all add up to some huge deception? I doubt it.
Tomorrow, we'll have the final "troopergate" report out, and there's a good chance it's going to contain some things which might fall into this "hey, you never told us about THAT" area, like the McCain campaign is trying to force a lot of this Ayers-related stuff into. And we'll hear Sarah Palin parsing words and saying things like "well, I didn't really lie aboot that, I just forgot to mention every detail." Significant? Only if either of them is hiding anything which is - ON ITS OWN - harmful or troubling. In Palin's case, that may very well be true, depending upon what that report reveals. In Obama's case? I highly doubt it. Ayers himself - though certainly still a polarizing figure - is no more a "terrorist" today than you are. And it's been quite some time since he WAS one. Working on the same board as him, for educational issues.....is a whole lot of nothing.
So very well said.
It has everything to do with it. He has been truthful, you just don't like the answer. 1. no he has not been truthful about either and 2. No I don't like the answer, b/c it wasn't truthful.
- Again, that's merely your perception. And now you're starting to not make sense.
I do not think Obama is a terrorist, I do not think he's a radical Muslim, I do not think he's a racist, although I do think like many bi-racial people he has struggled with both of his races so I don't think he's had some secret 'let's get America' meetings. I just want to know why he wasn't truthful .. it's that simply.
- Why do you think you needed to bring any of that up in this exchange, unless, you have some sort of guilt that you ACTUALLY do feel that way?
Not giving a dissertation or writing an epistle about his every single encounter with someone is not lying. saying nonchantly 'yeah he's a guy in my neighborhood, don't really know him' and 'yeah we served on a board together' is truthful to you?
- It isn't lying. It is what lots of people do when talking about people they know.
It is how he saw / viewed the relationship. ohhh so if it's how he viewed it it's ok to be dishonest ... gotcha
- Um, no gotchya. I really fail to see how he is dishonest.
Again, the majority think you're beating a dead horse. so why waste your time arguing with me
- Yeah, I'm asking myself the same question.
You're welcome to break your arm in the effort. what?
- Keep beating that dead horse.

Trolls often have personal issues that lead them to try to control others
I'd guess it was a strategic miscalculation.
Would you like to hear the list of things about which I'd like to know why McCain was "less than truthful?"
'Cause I'd be happy to provide that. Perhaps some of them might even interest you.
Or can we leave it that during political campaigns, when candidates are under constant scrutiny and often speaking extemporaneously, sometimes they say things which don't match up with a careful review of the facts, whether that's "he's a guy in my neighborhood" or "57 states" or outright lying?
