You might start here, as it gives a pretty good overview. But there is more - much, MUCH more - than that, if you wish.

HA! McCain, himself spreads the lies:

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, has repeatedly linked Obama to Ayers in recent days.

On Wednesday, for the first time, McCain did as well during the Fox interview. "It's about Senator Obama being candid and straightforward with the American people about their relationship. He has dismissed it by saying he was just a guy in the neighborhood. You know it's much more than that."

I respect Gergen's opinion, and he is often clear and on point. Unfortunately, it is a fact that some racists will not vote for Obama. However, the majority of the US is NOT racist. So, the Americans that value the country as a whole overall will support Obama's plans regardless of the fact that he is African-American. Americans that selfishly value their cultural views (NRA, pro-life, etc.) over the country as a whole will not support Obama. Based on the polls and the response of the people in my area, Obama's ethnicity is irrelevant, because he's smart, understands the problems facing us better than McCain and he's so poised and a true gentleman. I think Obama is fabulous and will help restore America's standing in the world.

Yes, yours was the second post in this thread, in response to the OP's post, including an article describing Obama being called a terrorist because of his "association" with Ayers.

That is PRECISELY to what McCain was referring. What do YOU think he meant?

I said it MIGHT have been a campaign strategy. I’m not at all convinced that it definitely was. I agree in large part with whatever-girl: that the relationship between Obama and Ayers was, while not strangers, not exactly close and deep, either - and that Ayers' radical past makes a much better scare-tactic campaign commercial than it does an actual issue about Obama's tendencies or judgment or what have you.

It may very well be that Obama just gave an off-the-cuff answer which wasn't 100% accurate simply because it didn't go into every singly possible angle/manner in which the two had ever crossed paths, but gave more of a general overview. Or it might be that Obama DID figure out that the whole issue might be irresistible right-wing bait, and decided to try to bury it by giving a general appraisal of the actual significance of the relationship (not much) without drawing too much attention to the specifics of it, in the hope that it just sort of faded away (as well it should).

Either way, though, it's similar to the "57 states" comment, or to McCain calling the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) - embarrassingly - the SPIC (racist slang for Mexican): no one believes that Obama really thinks there are 57 states in America, just as no one believes that McCain was trying to be a racist against Mexicans, or that he doesn't know what the SIPC is/does, although both statements are technically inaccurate. If Obama was merely speaking off-the-cuff when he first answered the Ayers question, not giving each and every connection isn't any different from either of those two examples. And even if Obama had decided to gloss over the relationship intentionally, giving it as little mention as possible without actually lying and saying "I don't know the guy," given the fact that his characterization of their relationship as not very close is accurate regardless of how many details he did or didn't include.....it's just not on the order of "I did not have sex with that woman" or perjury. Obama was not asked "what is the specific nature of your relationship with Bill Ayers, how many times have you met, and when did you become aware of his past violent activities?" If that had been the question, and Obama'd said "oh, just some guy in my neighborhood," things might be a bit different.
