What do you think of John McCain's proposal to spend 300 billion dollars in federal funds to buy distressed mortgages?

I thought that the whole concept was just plain not right when he "unleashed" it in the first 10 seconds of the debate. I don't know if this is supposed to be a ploy to get votes from everyone who is not able to make payments on their mortgage but if this was Obama saying it, well let's just say that iVillage would be crashing due to the overload of issues on this board.

I agree with you. I think it was spur of the moment also. I must say, I don't blame the people who can't afford their mortgages. I blame the crooks who sold them a bill of goods. If you can't believe the bank who's going to loan you the money, who would you trust? The mortgages are only a small portion of our economic problems. McCain's plan would never work. How would the value of the homes be determined? How much would each home owner get? What about the people making payments, but are struggling to do so? The money would never be approved.

That's why this proposed bill was a *second thought* it takes a lot of planning for something like this as you pointed out, every angle. What about "me" a first time buyer in another year or two, now am I supposed to pay for everyone else's mistakes?

It's Very vague, and "bucks" the GOP philosophy, right? So, when is McCain going to "unsuspend" his campaign? lol.

It must have polled well because Obama is now claiming that he proposed this before McCain did.

Actually if you watched any of Obama's speeches today he was claiming this was his idea a long time ago so I guess you guys haven't been listening to him. Also not everyone having mortgage problems did anything wrong. I've never been late on my payment. My husband makes good money and we have decent credit but we have a variable interest rate and with house prices going down and banks not loaning out money were going to be stuck paying more each month or lose our home cause it certainly won't sell in this market. There are a lot of responsible people out there who do have fixed loans but are losing their jobs because of all of this. Not everyone having problems were irresponsible.

The problem with John McCain and his campaign is that he always puts his energy into crafting a message, any message, and he could care less about the quality of the proposals he sticks into his messages. I

So true. Bringing on Palin, the lies about Obama, the empty health care proposal, Cindy McCain's dismissal of PTSD as real illness, Palin's claim that she reads the NY Time, The Economist and the WSJ......all the Republicans think we're stupid.

On Nov. 4th we'll show them who the stupid ones are!
