OK, that is reassuring somehow. I live in Europe. Most people outside the US, including people in positions of power, are hoping for an Obama win. The Bush Middle East policy as well as the recent fun and games in Georgia are seen as dangerous and destabilizing. The economic disaster is the final nail in Bush's coffin. Few people are interested in these policies continuing.
At this point only a brain-dead person would think that ANYBODY could sweep in and save the day. The point is that most likely the market is not driven by who is ahead in the polls, but rather the other way around.
My husband has been saying this since day one. Business is afraid Obama might win. The market seems to be rebounding now, though, after Zogby said that the race is still a tie and not to believe the Democrat hype. (And Zogby is a Democrat! LOL!)
