What is up with this garbage? McCain and Palin have to put their foot down to stop this. McCain bears some responsibility because his campaign has fostered nasty rude attacks that dehumanize Obama. But at least McCain was man enough to realize the monster he has created and McCain tried to calm down his angry mobs of supporters.

Palin, on the other hand, doesn't seem to know or care how to act like a decent human being. She is really scary.

I can't help it Soupy, your the one who said the right wing started this and brought up Nixon and Reagan.

If you want dreadful hate comment from the recent past; how about Se. Dick Durbin or John Murtha.

Looks like J.C. has had it with the Republican party, which has shown itself to have the smallest "tent!"

Is there a list somewhere of Republicans who have spoken out against the slimy campaign their party is running, or who realize we need a real leader like Obama?

If anyone can add to the list, please do so:

J.C. Watts
Christopher Buckley

Dear LORD, you are kidding, right? "High level documentation?"

Simply having a lot of footnotes doesn't mean you've done good research. I actually HAVE looked at Coulter's endnotes....and they are usually a joke. This is a woman who - not in the endnotes, but in the main portion of one of her primary chapters of one book - claimed that the "elitist New York Times" had never run an article about Dale Earnhardt's death (presumably because they are East-Coast commie snobs who think NASCAR is just for the rubes, etc. - usual Coulter tripe).

Of course, you know what's coming here - the Times, like every other paper in the country, ran a lengthy obit ON PAGE 1, complete with a color photo. In subsequent printings of the book, Coulter changed the wording to say that the Times waited two days to run anything about Earnhardt's death....again, false. The piece she cites was a lengthier "set piece" written as more of a character study, etc....the actual obit, linked above, is the piece that ran the day after Earnhardt's death....just like it did in every other paper in the country.

It was only Coulter's animus against the times - combined with her sloppy research and fact-checking skills - that allowed her to make such a colossal mistake, not in a column or journalistic article, which are often cranked out on a deadline about events which have just occurred, and therefore are sometimes subject to errors and omissions, but in a BOOK, which had to be edited, reviewed and cleared for publication before actually making it onto thousands of people's bookshelves.

"Research?" Coulter? Don't make me laugh.

That was the part of that video clip that completely floored me: McCain - for the very first (and so far, ONLY) time - calls for some temperateness, and is BOOED BY HIS OWN "SUPPORTERS."

Wow. I don't think there's a more stinging (stinking?) indictment of the rabid mob that has become McCain's - and more likely, Palin's "base" than that.

>>Let the political process go on, and let the people speak-out. It is far more scary; when speech is censored, muscled, or prevented.<<

ITA with your above comments, but the article stated:

>>I'm told the Los Angeles Times mailroom opened a hand-scrawled letter today that read "death to Obama" and contained a white powder that triggered a call to the FBI and a city hazardous materials team<<

IMHO, I don't think this is an example of exercising free speech as much as it's some whack-job being crude. Saying "I hate Obama" doesn't really come close to "death to Obama" and including an anthrax-like substance to back up your statement (fake as it was).

These actions shouldn't be condoned on either side.

Durban accused our troops, of being like Nazis and soldiers of PolPot.

False. I know it was spun that way by the right wing media, which is probably why you remember it that way, but nothing of the sort is true.

And Murtha said our troops are killing innocent citizens in cold blood.

They have been. Have you not been reading the news? Troops haven't been doing this as a standard MO, no - but it's been happening. Did you not read of the squad that saw an attractive Iraqi girl - FOURTEEN - and waited until they could enter her home, murder her entire family, multiply rape the girl, and then kill her, too, so she could tell no tales?

Murtha isn't lying, and he isn't "hating the troops." The man's a career military man himself, for crying out loud - some twenty five years in the Marines himself.

The only thing that's being "let rip" around here is all the gas from Republicans farting around on this issue, trying to claim moral equivalency when there is none.
