What is up with this garbage? McCain and Palin have to put their foot down to stop this. McCain bears some responsibility because his campaign has fostered nasty rude attacks that dehumanize Obama. But at least McCain was man enough to realize the monster he has created and McCain tried to calm down his angry mobs of supporters.

Palin, on the other hand, doesn't seem to know or care how to act like a decent human being. She is really scary.

Why do you think McCain should silence people?

Perhaps, you should ask McCain since that is

I repeat that there is nothing wrong with community organizations having input into the U.S. gov't agenda. We all know that the huge corporations do, even the ones responsible for our $700 billion bailout.

It's too bad that Acorn, only one of the community organizations Obama speaks of in the video, is being investigated because its employees allowed voter registration forms to be completed with fake names. There are many more nonprofits that stand up for the rights of, and speak for, American citizens who have no voice because they have no money. Those citizens deserve the same access to Washington as all the big corporations who pay off our legislators.

Now this is interesting... I went to the wikipedia site, and there has been extensive editing there in the past week...

On another thread, I had posted a section on ACORN's involvement in voter registration fraud.

So now we are back to the "It's not fair because they have more people than we do to carry out these mean attacks?"

That isn't silencing her.

>>> Have you seen a fact check on that? From what I read, the campaign paid that amount to Citizens Service, Inc., a firm that, in turn, paid about $80,000 to ACORN.

Rrriiiiiggggghhhhhhttttttt...a "mistake"...

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat's campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports.

A Trib analysis of campaign finance reports showed Obama paid CSI for services that stood out as unusual. For example, CSI received payments of $63,000 and $75,000 for advance work. Excluding the large payments to CSI, the average amount the Obama campaign spent with other organizations was $558.82 per check on more than 1,200 entries classified as advance work.

Citizens Services Inc. is headquartered at the same address as ACORN's national headquarters in New Orleans. Citizens Services was established in December 2004 to "assist persons and organizations who advance the interests of low- and moderate-income people," according to paperwork filed in Louisiana. In a 2006 ACORN publication, Citizen Services Inc. is described as "ACORN's campaign services entity."

>>What I find distressing is not that Obama supports or a community organizer organization supports Obama, but that an organization with repeated and extensive voter registration fraud for years up to the present is supported by Obama.

I was incredibly disappointed in hearing recent news about ACORN's participation in voter fraud. It's horrible. And I believe that Obama should denounce it. (If he has, I haven't heard anything.)

But I want to emphasize that ACORN is much, much more than voter registration efforts. Way, way more. The organization has assisted countless poverty-stricken citizens in fighting redlining, large tax preparation companies that were charging additional fees for unneeded services and check-cashing businesses with exorbitant interest rates on payday loans. Furthermore, they've run very successful educational campaigns for EITC (earned income tax credit) in low-income neighborhoods.

Their actions with regards to voter fraud are reprehensible. I just ask that those who are likewise appalled by these revelations also look into the good that ACORN has done.

Furthermore, voter fraud is also occurring on GOP voter registration rolls. I can't remember where I saw this -- watching too much news these days! -- but apparently, these numbers are lower because registration among Republicans is lower.

>>The left is calling for McCain to tell people to stop these attacks.

That's not my take. Personally, I think that McCain is in the unique position of a uniter -- he can help his supporters look at the issue-based differences between the candidates, rather than run with their clearly misinformed opinions of Obama. I thought he took a good step with the supporter who said that Obama is an Arab. My esteem for McCain grew in that moment.

Look, McCain is in a really, really tough spot. He's running against an African-American man who is incredibly popular with his party. He clearly has some very radical (and racist) supporters at his rallies. He's walking a tightrope that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. But in the end, he needs to do what's right for humanity -- not take advantage of the nastiness that is being displayed right in front of him.

Each party has its radicals. Each party has its misinformed members. Each party has its idiots. McCain's are particularly vocal at his rallies -- right in front of him. IMO, he has a moral obligation to discredit those sentiments. And it looks like he's at least partially taking the high road.

What specifically did you have a problem with regarding Rev. Wright?
