BO fining parents

I was watching some of the debate from last week online because i missed it. McCain brought up that Obama wants to fine parents who do not have health insurance on their children.

I'm not sure how most people feel about this, but isn't health insurance just as important as shelter, education and food. I definitely think that not insuring your children should fall into the neglect category. People can complain about the cost of health care but if you can't afford having a child, don't have one.

I guess i was wondering what others thought about this.

No....he didn't address it because you don't allow your opponent to force you into answering false charges, the very answering of which makes you look bad. To use an obvious - and extreme - example, if John McCain suggested that Obama beat Michelle, the damage to Obama would be done by his having to go in front of cameras and repeatedly correct the record....and just seeing him on TV saying "I do not beat my wife" is damaging enough.

Nah, if someone doesn't step up & refute a falsehood waged against them they know is false, it only serves to make them look guilty in others' eyes.

Good point, car insurance is generally more affordable, but the point is that states mandate it if you register your car. But what about those who don't like to get medical help for anything? my grandmother was like that, paid for insurance but never used it, until she got so sick that we had no other choice but to force her into the hospital, where she died a year ago tomorrow. If she didn't have coverage, on the other hand, we would have been screwed financially. She believed doctors were evil and medicine can kill you (as in the medicine itself, not the field). She lived to be 87 without medical help until the end, and she smoked 2 packs a day until she went into the hospital...*LOL* So for those that are like that are they still mandated to get coverage, and if the don't, do we still treat them and sock it to the living family when the person dies or sock it to them if they survive? there has got to be a solution that is affordable and reasonable for all in our nation. Oh i remember when we got rear ended one time, the girl produced a card that was a valid card but come to find out she had canceled her insurance after she got the card, so for the sake of police work and tickets, it appeared she had valid coverage. How can we make sure that when people get the coverage they keep it up? kwim?

>>If health care is socialized, we run the risk of having many poor doctors. Even with insurance there are poor doctors.<<

This reminds me of a joke:
Q: What do you call the person who graduates last in med school?
A: Doctor

I have insurance and when I need my yearly physical I call and make an appointment with their RN. I like her and she's very professional. I'm 42, don't smoke, drink, not overweight, no high BP or Cholesterol. I get my blood drawn and have all the testing done but I'm healthy and don't feel like I need anything more at this point in my life. If something came back not right you'd be sure I'd want to get it followed up with the appropriate doctor or nurse to get it straightened out. I'm sure there are others out there that don't need a "doctor" every time they need to see someone. I was recently sick and actually went to the "minute clinic" at CVS and who was there to see me? A RN. She checked me out and gave me a prescription for an antibiotic. I didn't feel like calling the doctor's office and have to wait for an appt (albeit the same day) on their schedule.

Don't get me wrong...children should get seen by pediatricians and sick people should be seen by doctors but I can't see how you can have a tier system by getting what you can afford. I have ins and pay a co-pay of $15 for an office visit but to be honest, I don't know how much my doctor charges the insurance and I don't know how much the insurance pays. All I know is I'm covered, and if something happened and I wasn't covered I wouldn't want my kids seeing some 2nd rate doctor.

Maybe I'm naive but I feel like no doctor wants to be a bad doctor; they do take an oath to do no harm, etc. If you take the health care system and make it like public defenders who are overworked and backed up because of the people who cannot afford legal defense I'm afraid that doctor's offices will start to get like that.

Hmmm...maybe he's programmed to kill the President by peacefully passing away in his sleep. LOL!

What exactly is the point of "mandatory coverage" if there is no enforcement, or consequences for failure to obey the mandatory coverage? How exactly is BO going to determine if everyone is in complaince anyway?
