BO fining parents

I was watching some of the debate from last week online because i missed it. McCain brought up that Obama wants to fine parents who do not have health insurance on their children.
I'm not sure how most people feel about this, but isn't health insurance just as important as shelter, education and food. I definitely think that not insuring your children should fall into the neglect category. People can complain about the cost of health care but if you can't afford having a child, don't have one.
I guess i was wondering what others thought about this.

lol. What nonsense are you trying to say? I'm saying if you can't afford a child, don't have one. If you can't afford to feed a child, you shouldn't have one. If you can't afford to shelter a child, don't have one. If you can't afford to insure you're child, don't have one.
I'm not advocating the killing of children. I'm advocating good parenting. I'm advocating the govt forcing parents to make sure that when their child is sick, that child will get all the medical care they need and that the lack of insurance will not hinder the medical care they receive.
"Personally I think anyone who doesn't have health insurance is making a very foolish choice. However, freedom requires that we allow people to be foolish."
If they are being "foolish" with their own bodies, that is one thing. But they are responsible for another human beings life and they should be held accountable for that child's life being taken cared of.
There doesn't seem to be much difference in my mind between mandating health insurance (especially if you can't afford it, the government will provide it to you) and charging parents who don't believe in medical intervention when their kid dies of an easily cured ailment.
"The law says children should receive minimum medical care. Now you are talking about dictating the way the parents provide it."
I don't see why you have a problem with this. Shouldn't a child have the right to demand health insurance? Would you as an adult, respect your parents, if they could have afforded or gotten free health insurance for you and they just decided they did not want to. What would be the reasoning for that other than stupidity.
If you can get it for free or at low cost from the govt if you do not have a job that offers it, what is your excuse for not having it?
It is not just a matter of having access to doctors and specialists, it is a financially wise decision.
I do not understand why any parent would take the life or financial risk of their child just because they feel like the govt is trying to control them. I don't think people who jeopardize their child's health should be allowed to have them.
Good question - I wasn't aware that Medicare has insolvency issues. And I'd be pretty upset with a government that couldn't run that properly.
From the outside looking in, it just seems illogical that there would be an additional layer of "for profit" business in the healthcare mix. IMO, the only parties who should be making money are the medical professionals.
Your example isn't of a negligent parent.
You didn't say a negligent parent but that any parent should be fined that didn't have health care for their children.
Also called common sense.
Hardly.
Personally I think anyone who doesn't have health insurance is making a very foolish choice.
Well, in many cases they can't afford it so have no choice but to have no coverage.
