Worthless Nobel Prize
| Mon, 10-13-2008 - 8:07am |
The Nobel Prize is officially a leftist propaganda tool. After giving the award to such luminaries as Yasser Arafat, Jimmy Carter, and Al Gore, a Nobel Prize has now been given to NY TImes columnist Paul Krugman. Not that I had much respect for the award before, but now, I think it is completely worthless.

I totally disagree. if it weren't for things like the Community Reinvestment Act, other government regulations and strong-arming tactics like the appeal for "affordable" housing, and quasi government institutions like Fannie and Freddie (which should've never existed in the first place), most of these high risk, subprime loans would've never happened.
Capitalism (aka economic freedom) is not the culprit here.
From what I have read, Fannie and Freddie and the CRA weren't fully to blame.
Many of these risky loans would've never been approved by private banks if they could not have resold them in bundles to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae - the largest mortgage buyers in the country.
Having Freddie and Fannie there to buy up the bad loans meant that the private banks didn't have to deal with the risk themselves.
Now the Nobel prize committee is a "bunch of left wing Europeans".
I don't think all policies from abroad are bad - just leftist policies. ; )
And while they have the right to honor whoever the heck they want, I have the right to criticize them if I think their choices were politically motivated.
Since when is disagreeing with who receives the Nobel Prize and why some sort of affront to freedom? Freedom from criticism does not exist.
I think you are blowing my passing comment way out of proportion.
I was simply commenting on the fact that having intellectually honest political discussion without personally attacking the poster can be rare on these boards. It can be very frustrating, which is why I stopped for awhile.
"I should have figured that all I'd get was immature namecalling and a discussion that would sink to the level of playgound insults."
... become very suspect.
Is the term "leftist" an insult to you? I didn't accuse all leftists of employing propaganda techniques, just the Nobel committee.
And you can call me right-wing or conservative all day long, and I won't get offended, because that's what I am.
Is the term "leftist" an insult to you?
Indeed not.
All my original post said that I basically thought that the Nobel Prize had been highjacked by leftist Europeans with an agenda.
I really don't see how that's whiny. If you want to criticize that pov with facts disputing my orignal point, fine. But YOU have not done that. You have only criticized me personally or conservatism in general.
