Worthless Nobel Prize

The Nobel Prize is officially a leftist propaganda tool. After giving the award to such luminaries as Yasser Arafat, Jimmy Carter, and Al Gore, a Nobel Prize has now been given to NY TImes columnist Paul Krugman. Not that I had much respect for the award before, but now, I think it is completely worthless.

Ah, I see. In that case, you may have misunderstood how the Nobel prizes in the academic disciplines are decided. Unlike the Peace Prize, the Nobel prize in an academic subject is nearly always awarded for a specific discovery or type of research done a long time before (20-30 years before on average, if I recall correctly). This is done to ensure that the research or discovery is "time-tested" and clearly of great significance. The chemistry prize this year, for example, was awarded for a discovery that dates back to 1962. Unlike the Peace prize, the academic awards are always decided first with regard to the discovery or research, then with regard to who contributed to the discovery or theory.

eta: I forgot to say that the literature prize has always worked a bit differently: it is, if I recall correctly, always awarded to a single person and usually awarded for a lifetime body of works, rather than a single piece.

Imagine a world where a peace prize is seen as worthless. Hmmm, is that world one where there is universal peace? Nope.

Hey, here's an idea... lets give the peace prize to George Bush for starting a war. That way, the right won't think the award is worthless.
