The "Couple Of Wackos" Theory

Republicans, both here and elsewhere, have been trying to tell us for more than a week - since the first two or three ugly utterances at Palin rallies started getting shown on news programs - that the hate coming out of those rallies was all the work of one or two lone wackos, that you couldn't expect NOT to have a couple of fringe lunatics in a crowd that size. We've been told by Republicans that we can't even be sure those people weren't actually plants from the Obama campaign. We've been told that Democrats and Obama supporters have been just as bad (though all they could find was a T-Shirt). But, as of tonight, all of those prevarications, equivocations, rationalizations and excuses are officially NO LONGER OPERATIVE to describe the flood-tide of right-wing hate. This was pulled down yesterday from the Sacramento Republican Party. Before we get to it, let me just say that again: this was - until yesterday - proudly displayed on the official web site of the Republican party in the capital city of the most populous state in our union:
I'll give you a couple of moments to pick your jaw up off the floor. OK, can you breathe again? Good - here's the story, from (conservative) Andrew Sullivan:
In a perfect confluence of all the current toxic elements of the GOP:
Not a lone protestor or crowd member. Not a fringe nut on Free Republic. On the official Republican website in the state capitol of the most populous state in the Union. This is why the GOP has to be defeated this time. For the sake of a decent conservatism. There's hypocrisy here too:
How curious.
But now, he's OK with the words "Waterboard Barack Obama" that were displayed prominently on sacramentorepublicans.org?
Maybe if someone had painted "Waterboard Barack Obama" on the side of a building, MacGlashan would be outraged. On the Internet? Not so much.
Let there be no more bullcrap from equivocating GoOPers, desperate to try to make people believe "both sides do it."
No. For the last time, no: they do not.

Sacramento County Republican leaders Tuesday took down offensive material on their official party Web site that sought to link Sen. Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden and encouraged people to "Waterboard Barack Obama" – material that offended even state GOP leaders.

When reached for comment Tuesday, Craig MacGlashan – head of the Sacramento County Republican Party – owned up to these and other characterizations of Obama.
How curious.
A few weeks ago, MacGlashan spoke out publicly against anti-Obama vandalism around town.
But now, he's OK with the words "Waterboard Barack Obama" that were displayed prominently on sacramentorepublicans.org?

The Republican party is split between the extreme right wind, which is mostly fundamentalist and the moderate wing, which is focused on fiscal conservatism.
"How many times have you read about the Secret Service investigating threats on McCain???
Yeah, there are no haters on the left, that's for sure. Daily Kos, anyone? Democrat Underground?
You are correct that there are haters on the left who say, post awful things.
In this case, this type of "hate" advertisement was on an official RNC site.
But none of your desperate attempts at prevarication even matter, in this context: The Republican Party - or at least someone high-enough-up in it in the Sacramento chapter - is running full graphics on their official web site, saying "waterboard" the Democratic candidate, and "the only difference between Obama and Osama is...."
Your party has lost the right to claim you just CAN'T IMAGINE where all those "lone nuts" full of hate are coming from. They get it straight from the party proper. Monkey see, monkey do.
Time to shock the monkey this election day, gang - no reward for bad behavior. Wipe the smug, divisive, xenophobic smile off their faces.
>>I am proud that most Americans appear to be rejecting this vile stuff. The proof is in the polls.<<
This is just more desperate, hateful propaganda coming from the right. It's all they have. Republicans don't have a leg to stand on and they can only attempt to try to scare us into voting for McCain to "protect" us from Osama who he "knows where he is and knows how to find him". I can sleep like a baby tonight. Please.
The proof is in the polls. Obama is going up across the board: foreign policies, health care, financial policies, trust, more ready to lead in spite of all the "B.S." coming from the right. Steadily rising since the RNC.
This is just more pure desperation that hasn't worked, isn't working and won't work in the next 3 weeks.

Well, I am a registered Democrat and you're right, I have seen people in 'my party' do some pretty nasty stuff.
