Atrocious to Smear a Private Citizen

I think it is atrocious for the press to try to smear a private citizen who merely used his first amendment rights to question a candidate! He didn't ask for all this attention, and he has not stated who he will be voting for, but since John McCain received some points in the debate last night about an exchange "Joe the Plumber" had with Barack Obama the press is out to destroy this man. Good Grief! The man is a plumber! An average citizen. Now the left wing is trying to vilify him like he's George Bush! How HORRIBLE! And the extremists on the left seem to be following in lock step. No compassion for an ordinary man UNLESS he shares their socialist viewpoint. This is about as dirty as it gets!

I don't believe that I was assuming anything.
You know this whole thing is ridiculous.
I HAVE read through this thread, yet am still not sure EXACTLY which specific "tactics" you want me to comment on. Since YOU are the one who asked me to comment, it's actually up to you to be specific (it's not up to ME having to do "homework") It is your responsibility as the one who asked for comments to clearly express what you wanted. This medium, without the benefit of facial expression and tone of voice is difficult enough without throwing in the expectation that others will successfully be able to read your mind.
But since you are unwilling to do that, I will take your original question at face value and answer it exactly as you have written it.

One....I don't feel comfortable denouncing (or praising) "tactics" of an entire group by observing the actions of some - particularly when the conclusions are so subjective (I tend to be specific, as groups are made up of unique individuals). So no....I cannot answer your question the way you have worded it.
Two....The jury is out on whether or not Joe's life has been "destroyed" or even if it will be....Again, I am reluctant to engage in hyperbole and then guesswork based on this hyperbole. Therefore I cannot in all good conscience, answer that part of your question either.

OK....I read what Obama said about China. Nowhere do I see him mentioning their economy or wanting to copy their economy. Yes, he praised the improvements made to their infrastructure and that having these improvements would make it attractive for people to do business there. I saw the Olympics and objectively, it was pretty spectacular what they managed to pull off. And why would they have done that do you think? Was it simply for a one-off show to the world for the Olympic Games alone (and it was obvious they wanted to make a great impression) or do you imagine that they were also looking at these improvements and new facilities as an investment to attract business to the country going forward?
One can compliment or acknowledge a good aspect of something without necessarily embracing the entire thing. Complimenting certain aspects or accomplishments of a particular country (like new infrastructure) and extrapolating it's attractiveness to business investors does NOT equate to embracing or wanting to emulate its entire ideology, human rights record, system of government etc....etc....
I remember when the Soviet Union was at its peak....I was able to admire its ballet dancers and athletes, the writings of Tolstoy, some pictures of its wonderful buildings and I quite liked the Soviet Chorus & Band....this does not mean that I was ready to throw down all my principles and beliefs and embrace Communism its economic system (or condone the actions of its government).
Now....About defining China's status....Did you notice this?
<>
I have problems seeing everything in black and white (something or someone is either this or it's that, but it can't be both). I will concede that China is a Communist country that embraces certain socialist principles and is evolving in ways that may defy conventional labeling. However, even if someone WANTED America to become another China, it would be impossible given China's history (and status of its many years of Communism snd curbing the freedom of its people and their access to information). This is TOTALLY at odds with America, its people and its history.
It just ain't gonna happen.
OK....Ya know what? I DID do your homework, went to Huffington Post and found this article about Joe the Plumber....I still don't see how anything written here constitutes the left destroying Joe the Plumber's life. Is there another specific article that show this happening?

Uh no - just the perspective of someone who works in public and media relations, and who teaches people how to deal with the media.
If one of my clients were to reference a private individual by name in
"What did happen is UNPRECEDENTED"
But likely not unforeseen - any PR director with a brain could have predicted that the media would be all over this.
"imagine yourself in this position - it would be flattering"
