I'd laugh if this wasn't so sad.

Do you really want to pay tax on your Employee Health Ins? The average family policy costs 12,000 a year. How far do you think 5,000 will go?

Unfortunately, the thread where I posted all the links has been pulled. But anyone can google Michelle Obama Indiana and will find SEVERAL articles placing her at a rally for her husband on Wednesday, Oct 15th, the same date as the supposed receipt from the Waldorf.

Of course, since this story was told on Rush Limbaugh, that's clue no. 1 that the story is false.

Wow! Are you new here? It's hard to tell these days as people have been playing musical names a lot these days (but you do not seem familiar)....In any event, if you are, WELCOME!....and thanks for that post!

Seeing your background in PoliSci and Political Theory, I've been fighting against this "Canada is socialist" theme here for years....So tell me....in your expert opinion....IS Canada socialist?

>>> Do you really want to pay tax on your Employee Health Ins?

Nope.

>>> The average family policy costs 12,000 a year. How far do you think 5,000 will go?

Almost half way. Personally, I'm not sure that McCain's "$5000 rebate" is per person, or per family. Either way, McCain isn't proposing FREE health care, he's trying to bring the cost down to make them more manageable for families. He thinks if people have the ability to buy their own health care plan (even across state lines...oops, there's that degreguation again) the competition for new customers will bring that $12K figure down considerably.

If you're interested in how Obama's plan might work out in the real world, google Hawaii shutting down their universal care plan for children after only 7 months. It's an eye-opener.

>>> Some policies are even more expensive, like the great healthcare ins that Teachers have, insodently paid for by the taxpayer.

I don't see why those plans would be adversely affected

>>> Plus, will John McCain have to pay tax on his own policy?

Don't know, but I suspect he's subject to the same taxes that everyone else is.

Look I want to know how it's going to affect ME and MY family. Already the policy my Dh has through his employer costs us 4,500 a year! Plus, if McCain taxes the employer's part, that in it self will be an extra 12,000 onto his salary.

>>> Look I want to know how it's going to affect ME and MY family. Already the policy my Dh has through his employer costs us 4,500 a year!

Then you should be supporting McCain because he's going to give you $5K to cover the cost and put an additional $500 in your pocket. Go McCain!

>>> Plus, if McCain taxes the employer's part, that in it self will be an extra 12,000 onto his salary. The policy sucks at best. We have to spend 3,000 on Dr. bills, prescriptions, etc, for the ins to pay 100%. they pay 40 we pay 60 inless that has changed also. It is a piss poor policy, the cheapest the Employer could get, it has gone up in cost EVERY year. Plus, i think you need to read McCain's policy in it's entirity. That 5,000 will need increasing to keep up with the rising cost of Health ins. Yep, McCain will add 2%, BUT the increase is predicted to go up 7% every year! Now, you know why I don't want McCain! He is covered until he croaks, I am not! I may skip tests, and needed proceedures because of the cost.

With McCain, your costs should drop due to competition and the ability to buy insurance across state lines. With Obama...well...do you really want the DMV running your health care? Like I said, read about how well "universal health care" worked out in Hawaii...it lasted 7 months. You might also ask yourself what kind of policy your Dh's employer will offer when he knows you can get subsidized...that's subsidized, not free...health care from the government. I'm thinking that you might see something similar to what happened in Hawaii. Then there's the whole "fines" thing...Obama told McCain in the debate that there would be NO fine for not providing health care...but his plan specifically says that there will be. Obama is lying, but on which point? Which is cheaper for the employer...a fine, or providing health care? Hmmm...

>>> Look Republicans have done nothing for me, absoutely NOTHING they favor the wealthy, period!

Try to become wealthy. Sorry...couldn't resist. Hey, if you want a socialist welfare state, then vote Obama...but someone's going to pay for his TRILLION in new spending, and it all isn't going to come from the top 5%. You want to make things harder on yourself...vote Obama and put the screws to your Dh's employer and drive the economy even further down.
