Why is there so much PRESSURE to vote for Obama anyway? He seems OK, but everyone sees him as God or something.
What bugs me most is the fact that no one can ever question anything Obama does or says. There's so much pressure to vote for Obama in my office. When I'm out at lunch with my co-workers, and everyone is talking trash about McCain, I just say nothing, even though I think McCain is a good man and he has been a great American with his military service. I think Sarah Palin is fine. She's a mother of five and a governor and she's only 44. Why does everyone hate her so much?
I'm divorced and have three kids myself, and I'd love to see a mom in the white house.
>>> I think that contrary to your call for explanation - you are the one who is still lacking a clear argument.
Well, you're free to have an opinion, but I've got Obama's words, actions and a dictionary to back me up. So far, you're clinging pretty heavily to "because I say so."
>>> You tell me that just because I believe something does not make it so - and that is the essence of my entire point. Just because you believe his policies to be Marxist, does not make them so.
It has nothing to do with my "beliefs"...the nature of Obama's policies and the definition of what is, or is not, Marxist make them so. I simply acknowledge the obvious truth.
>>> My point is that all policies have intellectual origins from all over the board, and picking one or two policies does not prove a point.
Sorry, but you're mistaken. You can identify Obama's political and/or social ideology by observing the policies he supports AND also by the words he uses to describe them...like "spreading the wealth." And even more...you can tell a lot about a person and their ideology by the friends they keep...and Obama's friends show just how radical Obama's personal ideology really is.
>>> Further, asking someone to prove something to the contrary - as you did in your previous point - is where I made my mistake. You are asking for non-falsifiable evidence which is where my training should have told me to step away - there is no evidence in the world that would change your assertion that Obama is a Marxist (I am assuming that even if Karl Marx himself were alive to review these policies and express his disdain for Barack Obama, you would continue to throw your vitriolic insults into the arena and declare exceptions!)
Sadly, we'll have to soldier on without Karl's insightful input. In reality, I didn't ask you to prove "something to the contrary," I simply asked you to support your arguments. There are many here who see that as the time to "step away," but I hoped your study in this area would equip you to be able to support your allegations.
>>> Especially love your point: There is nothing in McCain’s policies that even remotely resembles fascism. The end. Your logic is underwhelming.
I asked you to enumerate his fascist policies and you either refused to or couldn't. Attacking my perceptions when you can't support your own allegations seems a bit inane.
>>> Enjoy your opinions - I can say at the very least that I am grateful you are engaged in the process and based on the strength of your convictions you plan to vote.
I don't know if one really "enjoys" opinions as much as they simply hold them...but thanks for the thanks.
>>> However, I am not interested in one-sided, unreasonable reactions to arguments.
Then you might consider a new tack...supporting your allegations. Thus far, I have to admit that I'm underwhelmed by your education on the subject. You speak in generalities and again, either refuse, or are unable to take specific policies (or even his policies as a whole) and demonstrate that they do not fit the definition of Marxist, and instead say "it's so because I say it's so."
>>> The point in my posting in the first place was only to challenge all of us to re-evaluate our assumptions and what we are hearing in an emotional, charged election climate. I try to do that on a daily basis, despite your assertion of my "ignorance", and I hope everyone else does too.
I do as well. I didn't just pick up someone's buzz words...I examined Obama's policies and compared his philosophies to Marxism and darn if they match right up. Maybe you should do the same...or maybe you have and it's partisanship that prevents you from supporting your position by examining his specific policies rather than generalities.
>>> No further explanations from me to mileainm, but I sincerely welcome other challenges and arguments.
Sad...I guess when "because I say so" isn't found to be convincing it's best to move on to more fertile...or less fertile...fields. But feel free to come back when you have more to offer...I do like a challenge.
>>> From an academic side, I am fascinated by the way the propoganda on both sides has taken hold with all supporters - (Obama is a terrorist, Obama is a Marxist, McCain is racist, McCain is out of touch).
Except that no one has called Obama a terrorist...just that he hangs out with a terrorist...and a racist...and anti-Americans.
>>> I really hope we can all step back and use our collective brains to step outside of the campaign marketing and see the men for what *I believe* they are: two politicians who both want the best for us and our country, but who have fundamental disagreements about the best path to take.

I just came across a really funny article, "Amy vs. John" on Wetv.com about the pressure to vote Democratic this election—here it is: http://www.wetv.com/blogs/love-letters/2008/10/can-a-liberal-love-a-conservative.html
We need to let everyone speak his or her mind PEOPLE!

This is a small portion of an op-ed about McCain and his ties to Bush43. It's very interesting.

I think it depends on who you mean by "us."
Maybe you need to go back and look at it again then...
