>>> Did any of them get caught? (that were in the military)...Thanks for answering...I'm to tired to look for myself.
Caught doing what?
>>> You would think that having military experience would actually give McCain a more "level" head and calm demeanor........but guess not.
McCain is very level headed and calm, unlike Obama who seems disturbed or upset at the slightest impression of an affront. Maybe politics isn't his game.
I don't think you are following me and what I am saying. It takes money to write a book, lol, my life isn't interesting enough to write about. No, I have no ideas on any business or product ideas. My Dh's ex boss designed a "cane carrier" Now why would someone want to put their cane in a sling over their shoulder? But apparently, he got a patent for it, don't know if he sold any or not.
As far as my son and grandson, My son makes 13.00 an hour as a Machinist. This is what the company pays, you know, the company can't pay too much if they want to make a profit. Don't even say my son should get a second job. When is he to see his son who he has primary physical custody of? The childs mother has my grandson 2 nites overnite a week--- inless she has another plan. She is about worthless. I don't know why I'm telling any of this, it's a waste of my time, and I will NEVER vote for McCain!
My thoughts mirror yours exactly. I asked, because of your background...Where you said:
<<3. My "expertise" is a graduate degree in political science, a dissertation on international political economy and 5 years of teaching PolySci, International Political Economy and Political Theory at the collegiate level at a class 1 research university.>>
Hoping (in vain probably, as you have already seen) that it would add some "clout" in my constant efforts to dispel that "Canada is Socialist" myth that crops up with alarming regularity on this board.
Though I must confess....It was with a little trepidation that I asked (as I am constantly surprised at how little is known about your neighbour to the north....even among some who you would think would know better). However, I was more confident that you would say exactly what you did.
Based upon your conversations so far, you've seen that despite the fact that someone can ACTUALLY say (and I'd venture to go further than that and define it as PROVE through an obvious facility with the facts) that they are indeed an expert in a certain field....THAT carries no weight whatsoever. I remember a conversation I had with a poster a while back that exactly fits the MO and posting style of a poster here with a shifting identity/screen name, about the demographics of Iraq specifically (and the Middle East in general). This was in relation to the internal divisions and in-fighting that occurred as a result of the invasion and subsequent power vacuum (that through poor planning and a refusal to face the truth, the administration irresponsibly made into a certainty)....You know, those unfortunate events that the administration was supposedly "surprised" about when they inevitably came to pass after the US made the choice to invade Iraq, compromise their infrastructure, dismiss their civil servants, disband their military and remove their government (however undeniably tyrannical Saddam was). Anyone with even a modicum of knowledge about the political history of the area could have foreseen the writing on the wall from a thousand miles.
Of course my claims were called into question despite the fact that the one questioning these things provided no information whatsoever on their background or authority to opine at length on these very same issues (other than a deep and abiding blind faith in their own superior "judgement"). Of course, being an open debate board, there is no requirement that anyone have such knowledge when expressing their views, I still find it amusing and frustrating that despite this, that requirement is regularly demanded by some (and then denigrated), yet never reciprocated in kind.
While I don't currently work in a field where I have to use my degree in History (with a focus on the Middle East and the Soviet Union)....I stated that I came by my opinions with at least a little bit of knowledge due to my education in the area. I was told that I should request a refund for my studies.
Another interesting subject for me is the way in which certain political terms are defined in popular American culture. You've already touched upon Socialism, Marxism, Communism....But I am constantly amazed how the terms Liberal and Conservative that get bandied about everyday (usually with the aim to frighten, denigrate or belittle) by many people who have no clue as to what these terms actually mean....Even more disturbingly, this is also done by politicians and "journalists" who probably DO know, but choose to perpetuate this ignorance to further their own ends.
I'm also pleased by the fact that you have an interest in INTERNATIONAL politics. I constantly get taken to task here by a number of folks wondering why in the heck I'm so interested in American politics (despite the undeniable influence it has on the world and my country specifically). I've been told to mind my own business, that I have no right to post here, that I should pay attention to the affairs of my own country (who says that I don't?), that I hate America, that I have some sort of agenda (because obviously, just having an interest is too weird to fathom by some).
I'd better stop now. I hadn't intended this to turn into a rant but I think it's showing a danger of heading in that direction.
Okay...I'm going to say this one last time. I was NOT, I repeat....NOT the one who brought up race, or blacks, or inner city kids. Everyone keeps twisting my original post and when I respond...somebody else says that I brought up those issues and calls ME a racist....This is an IMPOSSIBLE discussion board and I will no longer participate.
It's very disturbing that so many people have such venom and hatred and blame everyone else for their problems. It sickens me. The trouble with America is the ever present victim mentality and entitlement streak a mile wide. It's pathetic. Nobody takes any personal accountability anymore.
