Today in USA Today:
(((NEW YORK (AP) — "Joe the Plumber" is lashing out at the media for analyzing his personal life since he suddenly became a focal point of the presidential race last week.
Joe Wurzelbacher, a plumber from Holland, Ohio, told Mike Huckabee on his Fox News talk show Saturday that he is upset by the attention and has been unable to work with reporters crowded on his front lawn.
"The media's worried about whether I've paid my taxes, they're worried about any number of silly things that have nothing to do with America," Wurzelbacher told the former Republican presidential hopeful on his show, Huckabee.)))
But McCain won't stop bringing his name up in his rally's - so how is that helping Joe? Or is he just using him for political gain? So who is using Joe - Obama or McCain?
In the Raliegh News and Observer:
(((In Concord, McCain delivered a 30-minute speech interrupted by chants of "U-S-A, U-S-A!" and a roar at every mention of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. He pledged to rein in spending, explore new energy sources and help troubled homeowners by buying up bad mortgages.
He invoked Joe the Plumber nearly a dozen times.
Wurzelbacher, an aspiring small-business owner, had asked Obama on a campaign stop this month whether his tax plan would hurt him. Obama gave a detailed explanation of his proposal and said by giving tax breaks to more people, it would help small business.
"Right now, everybody's so pinched ... ," Obama told him. "And I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
McCain has pounced. His campaign passed out posters that read, "I'm Joe the Plumber" and "Let Joe keep his dough."

The press is on this man, not because of Obama's conversation with him (Which was how many days before the debate now?) but rather, that McCain brought this guy up 21 times during the debate.
21 times.
Perhaps if McCain and his supporters would stop talking about Obama so much and start talking to us about what McCain can do to solve the problems we're dealing with, he might have more traction and actually be taken seriously as a candidate.
As a person, McCain might be all well and good. As a candidate, he's nothing short of a pure loser.

Indeed. Perhaps it's time to resurrect this old gem for the occasion, given your reference of clarity of vision (note: any similarity between the following illustration and actual persons is purely intentional. No names have been changed to protect the innocent because 1: the Lord protects the innocent as a matter of heavenly routine, and 2: John McCain is not innocent):

Oh? What - in your opinion - are taxes "supposed to be for," either ideally or in modern-day America?
That was me...but at this point after having participated in the over 300 post thread on this topic, I'd just consider it progress if certain folks could bring themselves to concede that maybe.....JUST maybe, McCain might be a TINY bit responsible.
I've been posting here for over six years....I've come to learn that even asking for that much is usually expecting a lot....Baby steps.
I really don’t think that your tenure; I,e, how many years you’ve been posting here or anywhere, is relevant.
But you already have a big spender in office when times are tough: George W Bush.
Largest Government ever, largest deficits ever.
So you want us to believe that another republican will work when they've ALL worked against us for years under bush's so-called mandate and political capital.
That's a hoot! The GOP has had its chance to lead and they've failed.

I am disgusted that only speech that the press agrees with is safe from scrutiny. It is appalling.
President Bush is a big spender. Teamed up with the big spending Democratic congress this country is in trouble. Now you want to put a man who promises to ADD 8 billion dollars of NEW SPENDING to the already overstretched budget???? He cannot do this just by "taxing the rich". That is impossible. So you are voting yourself into another great depression, congratulations.
McCain has a record of voting against wasteful spending and NEVER in 26 years in office asking for ANY earmarks for wasteful spending for his state. That should say something. He also promises to "make the congressmen famous" who add wasteful spending to the bills that the Democrat majority will surely pass. Since he doesn't have "line item veto" this is the best he can do to insure that we the public know WHO is wasting the taxpayers' money. That way we can put pressure on them to lay off, or vote them out if necessary. This is the most any president has promised since I've been paying attention. That's one of the reasons that I support a candidate who promises to reform this monster that we have as a government. Obama promises more of the same taxes and HUGE SPENDING. Just look at the records of these two men and you will see for yourself. ACTIONS speak louder than words.
McCain has sided with the bush economic 'plan' more than 97% of the time.
What you ask is impossible to give: Faith in Republicans.
Spending on our middle-class and infrastructure is not just SPENDING, it's called investing.
Investing in our country, something that McCain has NO RECORD of at all.

I've already conceded that I feel for the guy (that the press often goes overboard and this case, some folks are). What I'm having issues with you about on this topic is a few other salient points.
One....Not all of this attention is "villanizing" him....Some of it has been at his own making...and a lot of it has been rather positive (it may even pay off for him in the end).
Two....Your propensity to lay absolutely EVERYthing at the feet of the "Liberal" media (despite the fact that more conservative media are also chomping at the bit to get a piece of him).
Three....you have not been willing to acknowledge even the TINIEST bit, that McCain has played (and continues to play) a role in all of this.
Four.....You keep insisting that this has happened <<....JUST because he asked Obama a tough question>>
That's NOT the reason for all the attention (LOTS of people ask Obama tough questions). In fact, of all of the many possible reasons, this is probably the LEAST likely of them all.
I'm starting to think that your "concern" for Joe the Plumber stems less from your deep caring for a man you do not know, than your transparent desire to slam and pin blame on Liberals (and ONLY Liberals). This, while at the same time deflecting ANY responsibility - even the most microscopic amount - away from the role your candidate played in skyrocketing this guy onto the international stage (and keeping him there through repeated references). This is DESPITE the fact that McCain is now perfectly aware that this guy is being besieged by the press.
