Today in USA Today:
(((NEW YORK (AP) — "Joe the Plumber" is lashing out at the media for analyzing his personal life since he suddenly became a focal point of the presidential race last week.

Joe Wurzelbacher, a plumber from Holland, Ohio, told Mike Huckabee on his Fox News talk show Saturday that he is upset by the attention and has been unable to work with reporters crowded on his front lawn.

"The media's worried about whether I've paid my taxes, they're worried about any number of silly things that have nothing to do with America," Wurzelbacher told the former Republican presidential hopeful on his show, Huckabee.)))

But McCain won't stop bringing his name up in his rally's - so how is that helping Joe? Or is he just using him for political gain? So who is using Joe - Obama or McCain?

In the Raliegh News and Observer:

(((In Concord, McCain delivered a 30-minute speech interrupted by chants of "U-S-A, U-S-A!" and a roar at every mention of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. He pledged to rein in spending, explore new energy sources and help troubled homeowners by buying up bad mortgages.

He invoked Joe the Plumber nearly a dozen times.

Wurzelbacher, an aspiring small-business owner, had asked Obama on a campaign stop this month whether his tax plan would hurt him. Obama gave a detailed explanation of his proposal and said by giving tax breaks to more people, it would help small business.

"Right now, everybody's so pinched ... ," Obama told him. "And I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

McCain has pounced. His campaign passed out posters that read, "I'm Joe the Plumber" and "Let Joe keep his dough."

((((He is interested in buying a small plumbing business. ))))

Shouldn't Sam be more interested in paying his BACK taxes, BEFORE he complains about being TAXED for a HYPOTHETICAL business? REAL people are hurting out here. Jobs gone, food prices increasing, banks freezing credit. Geeze, Louise, McCain really needs to fire his advisors on this one.

I object to the federal government TAKING large percentages of my income and putting it into BLOATED OVERPRICED programs. I do not object to disaster relief, but I do object to the government paying $250.00 for a HAMMER!!! Most of the money that goes to the programs is wasted or given to the bureaucrats who run the programs, instead of where it really needs to go. And the foxes keep guarding the hen house...

1.) I don't think you understand what I have been saying. I don't mind positive attention given to any normal person in the press. I object to the press digging up dirt on someone in an effort to stifle free speech, or at least supply an example to the common man that he needs to keep his mouth shut or agree with the left wing agenda lest he suffer the consequences. That is what I object to. The attempt to stifle a man's first amendment right to fee speech.

2.) As far as I am concerned, John McCain could use his name in every sentence in every speech from here to eternity and that does not give the press the right to try to dig up dirt on the normal person who has exercised his right of free speech. I really can't think of any way to say this any clearer.

3.) The liberal media is digging up dirt. Fox news, to their credit, is not trying to dig up dirt on this man. I will watch Fox News more, thanks to that.

4.) Obama is NOT EVER asked tough questions by the media. They fawn all over him and try to make excuses for him when he messes up. Then the go after guys like Joe The Plumber and try to smear his name and ruin his reputation because he asked a question that Obama was not able to answer well.

5.) I only blame LIBERALS in this situation because it is ONLY liberals who are trying to smear an ordinary citizen.

You've gotten your spin mixed up. McCain did not side with the "Bush economic plan" 97 times. (Bush has only been in office 8 years). McCain has fought Bush on some economic issues. I urge you to look into both candidates economic RECORDS. This differences are startling.

Ah but what you said was you didn't want to 'spread the wealth' and what I pointed out is that you have been doing just that since you first started paying taxes. We weren't talking about $250 hammers - that is another whole conversation. It's called wasteful spending.

We have all been spreading the wealth whether we think of it that way or not. People generally just don't look at it that way. Spreading the wealth seems to be fine if you are the beneficiary, and not fine if you don't like the people who are getting the benefit. Do you object to federal small business loans for start up businesses? Spreading the wealth. Do you object to research into new medical procedures that would lead to longer or better quality of life? Spreading the wealth.

$250 hammers do not fall under 'spreading the wealth' they fall under wasteful spending. I think we all object to that. Just as I objected to the Bridge to Nowhere and the road that was built with federal funds the Road to Nowhere. Just as I objected to bailing out AIG while the AIG execs took a nice little vacation.

I don't like "spreading the wealth". I haven't done just that by donating my hard earned money to the wasteful government. I didn't have a choice.

"I bet the left thinks John McCain is to blame for that too."

No, unless he was reported driving "himself" around there. :)
