I copied this from FNC. I'm planning on going to the base today so I'll pick up a copy of Military Times.

The Military Times polled 4,300 readers from 22Sept-29Sept. Those surveyed were a little bit older than the avg. enlisted member and includes a few more officers than are represented in the military as a whole.

ALL RESPONDENTS

68% support McCain

23% support Obama

10% undecided, declined to answer or other

If you divide it by race, 8 out of 10 Black service members

"It's time to put the election behind us and the country in front of us. Barack Obama wasn't my choice, but come January 20th, he will be MY President.... I will not seek to see all

So what if most blacks are voting for Obama because he is black...You vote for who you trust....Why should

I was always under the impression that African Americans have traditionally trended strongly towards voting Democrat....REGARDLESS of the candidate. Is there any reason why in 2008 it should be any different?

But you see that obvious statistic doesn't seem to penetrate some on the McCain side.

You are right. At my husband's base, those supporting McCain far out number those for Obama. They see a support for Obama as a conflict of interest.

Just curious, what do they call black people in Canada? African Canadians?

They generally identify as black. I don't think I've ever heard someone actually saying African Canadian....I am just never sure what is the best/most respectful terminology to use when speaking of race with an American.

My husband is an Army veteran and served two tours in Iraq; most of his friends are currently on their third and fourth tours, and he is going to college on the GI Bill, so we definitely have kept up with the election and specifically veterans issues and Iraq/Afghanistan. We are both proudly voting Obama/Biden this year for several reasons, but one of the most important is the ticket's support of our troops, veterans and military families.

As my husband has said, "I know a ton of officers who were great officers, but they would make terrible CEO's, let alone presidents." Serving your country is an honorable, selfless thing to do, but it should not be an automatic qualifier for being POTUS, and likewise, not choosing to serve in this fashion should not automatically disqualify someone or make them less worthy of

What you said was fine, it is the common term used here but I was just curious what other countries use for terms, or if we were the only ones that say African _____ (fill in the country), kwim?

As far as I know, you might be. Actually, I've never found that to be a very accurate term anyway. When we refer to someone by nationality (with or without the "Canadian" tacked on)....It's specifically to acknowledge the country that person or their parents actually came from.
