Powell’s endorsement
| Tue, 10-21-2008 - 10:25am |
Colin Powell said it best last Sunday.
His reasons for not supporting McCain/Palin:
1. McCain’s problems with understanding the proble,s with the economy.
2. Selection of Palin, a not-qualified VP candidate.
3. Displeasure in McCain/Palin campaign attacking character of Obama/Biden instead of address issues, including the economy.
Powell stated that we need someone to bring this country together, not more divisiveness.
He made a solid case as to why he will vote for Obama/Biden.

>>> I am sure he has lots of political positions that are irrelevant to his service or his record -
Affirmative action is directly relevant to his service and his record...in large part because that is what got him the promotion(s), over the opinion of his direct superior, in the first place.
>>> he was involved in that debate because of his participation as a student, not his work while in office.
This article says different.

Good article - and I actually remember that.
>>> I just said it was peripheral support because he was never in a position to draft or vote or legislate on that policy. It would be akin to his positions on abortion or imminent domain or NAFTA - does that make sense?
Kind of...except on this particular issue, it appears that Powell used his position in the administration to create a stir by publicly going against the President.
>>> More than anything, I was relieved to hear that my original impression about your statements was dead wrong. It sounds like in the end we have a difference of opinion about his politics, not so much his behavior or intentions.
I think Powell is an honorable man, but I do think that race played a significant part in his endorsement. It's also unfathomable to me that a man like Powell, who should be familiar with the dangers facing the country by "newly resurgent" enemies, would endorsement a man without any experience, and who was demonstrably wrong on every issue of foreign policy in the past several years. It does cause me to question his motives.
>>> Would you vote for Powell if he instead of Obama was running for President?
I don't know what Powell's positions on the issues are. But after his recent performance, I have grave concerns about his judgment and personal integrity.
>>> How about if Powell instead of McCain, since I don't think you would vote for a Democrat anyway, and I will not vote Republican.
Find me a Democrat with some kind of integrity who's on the right side of the issues and you've got a sale. Good luck with that. ; )
